I like quite a few things about Safari 6 but the new window-width tabs are not one of them. I've looked in prefs for some way to customise them but didn't see anything. Anyone know a way to set them to the old fixed-width style?

Presumably the third-party apps are twiddling undocumented options. Is there any hope of finding a "defaults write com.apple.something" that triggers the narrower-tab behavior without installing a program?
I am actually having problems with Glims. The release build seems to sometimes hang safari during page loads (almost always the first page upon launch but sometimes it recovers) and the beta build seems to have lost the narrow tabs even though the option is checked on.
Just installed Glims! Thanks guys. There are some other nice enhancements like eing able to change the search engin option from the address/search bar!
GLIMS dev build has been updated today, with added features and the tab size thingie works again.😁
A vote for Glims from me too. I had forgotten what the option did, I was thinking it just added the favicon to the close button. Brill no need to install the new dev build now.
This tabs "upgrade" is completely ridiculous! Apple! Tsk, tsk. Please make an option to change to small tabs, as 2 or 3 open tabs requires me to use a telescope to scan from one side to the other.
Apple is proving to be just as stupid as Microsoft more everday. Who there thought these stupid wide tabs were a good idea? An how is it that searching from the address bar is a NEW feature for Apple in 2012? Chrome has had it forever. And don't get me started on iCloud. I have trained my brain not to even hear the word cloud in all of Apple's advertising since it creates so many nightmares anytime I try to use it. Oh, and rather than innovate and be better, they're suing everyone into submission.
Be smarter, be better, Apple! Please!
a bit of a sloppy workaround is to just open a whole bunch of blank tabs (cmd T) untilyou get your desired tab size for the 3 you have open, takes about a second or about as fast as you can hit the T key.
also the new Glims version is just out and has 'disable Safari wide tab labels (as well as bringing back tab favicons)

a lot of people can say yes i'm happy with "w i d e tabs" ok i respect that, but
DON'T REMOVE THE ORIGINAL TABS SIZE!!!! you can add a little box wide or not wide!!!

with this change and the rss feed removal i'm forced to move to chrome, against my will. it's almost like they don't want people using their browser anymore 😟
Whoever designed the new look for Safari 6 should be made to work somewhere else!

Will Glims get me my seperate address bar and search engine bar back? If I wanted crappy web browsing I would have stayed with PC and IE!!!
Not in 1.0b33, may be added to newer version, as long as Apple allow this kind of change to Safari.
I can still switch between the different search engines, as before, clicking on the down arrow next to the current search engines icon, it's now on the right hand side of the address/search bar, if you aren't aware of it.
