Mountain Lion won't sleep, shut down, restart, or log out.

Hi All,

After Mountain Lion my 2010 iMac 27" won't sleep, shut down, restart, or log out.

Basically most functionalities of clicking the apple icon are disabled - "About this Mac" doesn't work either.

Please help!

Before Apple fixes this, is there another way of putting my Mac to sleep or shut down?

iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), OS X Mountain Lion

What do we have to check in ~/Library/LaunchAgents ??

In my Users settings -> Open (sry if bad translation...). I Have MagicDriver Manager (software for the mouse), SIMBL Agent (dont know what is it), and Dropbox. None of these are checked.

On the other account, the one that works, i only have iTunes Helper (Type : Unknown) and MagicDriver Manager.

You think it is SIMBL Agent that ***** up? what is it?

@All - Ok, so we all seem to be having the same problem with the Apple menu items. One other thing I noticed is that some Mac OS keyboard shortcuts got changed during the re-install, and when I changed them back to how I had them setup... the settings don't save (after a forced shut down). Not sure if this is part of the problem, or if it's just that the forced reboot messes with this. Anybody else encounter anything like this?

My mouse wheel also got set to "natural scrolling". I turned this off, and it switches back with every forced reboot.

Another suggestion is to move everything from ~/Library/Caches .

@Kinoulou: I have no special startup item or launchagent in mind. Just compare the things in your two accounts and try to (re)move everything from hte non-functional account that is not in the functional one.

SIMBL seems to be a knd of unarchiver. You can safely remove this from startup item list using the - sign (unchecking will not remove it) and see if this helps.

@soehn - I backed all those files up and removed them from the "caches" directory. No luck their either.

One other thing I've failed to mention... the to menu bar (entire top bar) doesn't appear at first after logging in. It isn't until I click finder or start up something that it appears. Even hitting the key combination for spotlight or something else on that bar doesn't work until I start an app. After that the bar works... except the items previously mentioned. Software Update works, Recent Items, etc... just not the other ones (restart, log out, shut down, about my mac, etc.)

Had the same problem and this worked for me:

Try deleting following two items:

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.db

Make sure you take a screenshot of your current dock since deleting these files will reset your dock to default.

Now open terminal and do a sudo reboot w/ your password.

This solved the problem for me.
