Hi All,
After Mountain Lion my 2010 iMac 27" won't sleep, shut down, restart, or log out.
Basically most functionalities of clicking the apple icon are disabled - "About this Mac" doesn't work either.
Please help!
Before Apple fixes this, is there another way of putting my Mac to sleep or shut down?

I'm having the same issues too. Mine is a 13 inch MBA, late 2010. I think this is a rare situation because no one talks about it. I did the SMC reset but it still couldn't work. So I used my Time Machine to restore it. I'm going to install ML again. Any ideas?
Did you try to close all apps before trying to shutdown?
Got the same issue here... on both of my iMacs and my Macbook Air.
I have the same issue no sleep, restart or shutdown. It lets you select it but then nothing happens.
Same problem. Wont shutdown, reboot or start up, only boots in Safe Boot. 😠
@A_liddell - Pretty sure you are having a very different problem than everyone else in this thread. All three of my machines startup perfectly... I just can't restart, shutdown, log out, or even access "force quit...". Aside from that, the computer seems to be working as it normally would. All apps, settings, etc are all fine.
What happens if you hold the power button for a few seconds? I know that is a force shutdown that will just shut the entire machine down bypassing the shutdown procedure within OS X. Just make sure everything is saved and you're not working on anything.
After turning it back on and booting up does it still have the same issue?
...could also pull the power cord and/or let the battery drain. lol

Can you use the menus and restart normally now?

after upgrading from lion to mt. lion. sleep/restart/shut down and about this mac won't response in apple menu.

Just adding another voice to the chorus. Since upgrading to Mountain Lion my computer will not sleep. The cursor freezes when I try to invoke sleep but the computer and monitor remain on. The cursor unfreezes when I tap the spacebar the way I would normally do to wake from sleep. Fortunately, shutdown, restart and logout function normally, so I guess I should count my blessings. This isn't my only problem with Mountain Lion, but I didn't want to muddy the waters on this thread with other issues.

@Scyanide - I've used this (holding the power button) to force a shut down, but the problem persists. All three of my macs are still experiencing the same issues of not being able to use most commands in the apple menu... including: about this mac, force quit, sleep, restart, shut down, or log out...

should i go back to snow leopard using Reinstall Drive? Won't it erase all of my SSDs and pictures?
Anyone having this issue. I'm curious do any of the following keyboard shortcuts work?
Shift-Command-Q : Logout
Option-Shift-Command-Q : Logout immediately
Control-Eject : Show shutdown dialog
Option-Command-Eject : Sleep
Control-Command-Eject : Quit all apps and restart (gives chance to save)
Control-Option-Command-Eject : Quit all apps and shutdown (gives chance to save)
I wonder if it just an issue with the menu it self or the restart/shutdown process itself.
