Hi,

You could try Time Machine to "Restore" the earlier version as a test.

Apple Remote Desktop is in Hard Drive Name/System/Library/Core Services.

In here is a folder called Remote Management (Or at least in Mountain Lion it is)

Once in the Core Service Folder launch Time Machine then navigate to a date before the Update and select the Remote Management folder an then click Restore

Hello,

We are having the same issue. PacBook Pro - Lion 10.7.4 - all updates installed, iMac 10.7.4 all updates installed. Working fine 2 weeks ago. Today iMac can not see MacBook Pro's screen, she says all she see's is a white screen and her thumbnail screen, like the image above. MacBook Pro can however see iMacs screen. Verified all updates are installed, restarted entire network both ends. Connection Dr on the MacBook Pro says all is normal. Generally have bandwidth limit on MacBook Pro set to none, tried other setting, no difference. Do remember doing an update reciently that mentioned Remote Desktop.

Going to try again tomorrow. Will update this link if we find any further information.

Under preferences > accounts > security I have never enabled "Allow AOL's server to relay video chats". Courious if enabling this has any effect. Had a similar issue in the past when we wern't using the same OS as each other. We had random green screens instead of white. Back then we had to keep restarting and reconnectiong untill a clean connection was achieved. However this time we believe everything is the sme and so far we haven't been sucessfull connecting at all.

I just tried what you wrote Ralph but it still doesn't work 😟

EDIT:

It works now!

Here is what I did:

- I restored the 4 files from /System/Library/Core Services to my desktop (from last week).

- I moved the 4 files from /System/Library/Core Services to another folder (to not delete them in case...).

- I moved the 4 restaured files one by one from my desktop to /System/Library/Core Services.

- I re-opened iChat and now the screen sharing is working as before.

Thanks a lot for your help 🙂

I recently moved to a new apartment and got Verizon Fios installed 2 weeks ago. I thought maybe there was something to do with the Fios set up that caused the screen sharing issue. I called up the Verizon installer's personal cell phone, he told me that he didn't set up any Firewall or anything that can cause this to happen. I see now many people out there have the same problem. I wonder if I upgrade my system to Mountain Lion that might fix the problem? Has any one tried that yet?

HI,

It seems to be an Update to Apple Remote Desktop in Lion that is causing this.

Screen Sharing from the Finder, Apple Remote Desktop itself and iChat's Screen Sharing use the Apple Remote Desktop "engine".

I just had this same issue. One iMac with Mountain Lion (Messages) and one with Lion (iChat). I was able to share the Mountain Lion screen with the Lion screen but in the other direction I could only see a white screen. In other words, the Mountain Lion iMac only saw the white screen. I had the Lion iMac user change their screen resolution to one setting lower and it fixed the problem. I'm guessing there's some issue with screen resolution causing this.

Hi,

That is useful to know.

It will avoid people having to Backstep to and earlier version of Apple Remote Desktop.

Thanks all. I'm having the same problem: When I was on Lion, and had Messages Beta installed on my MBP, I was still able to use the screen sharing component to both observe and be observed by my parents iMac with Lion. I have now upgraded to Mountain Lion and they are still on Lion.

They can see my screen, but I can only see white when they share. Does this mean I need to restore my settings, or they have to restore theirs? Based on the note from Davyx, it seems that the person who is presenting the white screen to others needs to do the restore. Let me know if others find more info. I'll probably have to drive out to my parents to do the restore for them. Tricky because they don't have time machine. I might try copying my restored files with the old version of the Remote Desktop. How do we let Apple Know when we find that this is truly the problem?

Aug 6, 2012 10:40 PM in response to toutla

Yes, your parents have to retore the files, the problem comes from them.

Since I have restored my files (thanks to Ralph) I can share my screen again without any problem.

This morning my system wanted to update Apple Remote Desktop, what I didn't allow. Now the problem is if this will be solved and how to know if it's solved. I don't want to update the Remote Desktop if I'm not sure that it will work correctly.
