zagg keyboard won't stay connected to Ipad2

I have an Ipad2 and a zaggfolio case and bluetooth keyboard, for my son to use this year in 5th grade. Both are new, in fact zagg has already done a warranty replacement and the replacement has the same problem. I have successfully paired the keyboard with the Ipad, but it won't stay connected. Sometimes the connection lasts the whole day, sometimes just an hour. The Ipad has the most recent operating software installed, and both the Ipad and the keyboard are fully charged.

I can 'solve' the problem by turning off bluetooth, turning off the keyboard, then turning both back on... and so could my kid. But that is a couple of minutes lost, potentially several times a day... which in a crowded classroom setting, in a rush, and when he is already the oddball for using a keyboard, it could be a dealbreaker.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is it fixable? or is it just a 'suck it up, that's the way bluetooth is' kind of thing?

thanks!

I have an ipad3 with zagg portfolio keyboard and am having similar connectivity issues. I have to turn bluetooth off and reconnect from my ipad. I did not have this issue until just a few months ago. I too am wonderkng if it is an OS7 bug. I have not had an issue with the Wifi connection, just bluetooth. I iniitally charged the unit thinking that was the problem, but it still happened. I find it happens more oftern when I first try to use bluetooth after turning on the ipad.

Is there a keyboard out there that works well? I want to get my husband one for his new ipad4, but no need spend the money if it is going to have such issues. He's not very technology-oriented and this would really frustrate him.

I have an Ipad Air, and the new Zagg folio keyboard, and I have the same issue. The connection works great much of the time, even when waking from sleep. But, every so often, while typing, e.g. in Pages, the connection is lost and the onscreen keyboard comes up, or it starts repeatedly typing the same character...the only fix is to turn off the folio and turn it on again periodically.

I also have the iPad Air and the new Zagg Folio keyboard and sadly also have the exact same disconnection problem. I had the iPad 2 and previous Zagg keyboard that both worked together seamlessly without this disconnection issue. This issue seemed to manifest with the latest iOS update and affects bluetooth connectivity.

APPLE PLEASE FIX!!!

From what I can tell, this is an Apple problem, not a Zagg problem. I have an iPad 3 (ios 7.4)and a Zagg Profopio Plus. I have had problems with this the past couple of months. I don't remember if it began with ios 7. I can get it to reconnect temporarily by turning off, forgetting the device, etc., but the problem comes back in a few minutes. The only way I have gotten it to stay connected for any length of times is to go to settings on the iPad and "Reset All Settings". This is a pain because I have to fix everything again (wallpapers, locations services, etc.). This is why I'm convinced this is an Apple problem.

ME TOO! I just purchased an iPad Air and bought a Zagg Folio...consistently it completely disconnects from my iPad after a few minutes of sleep and it will not pair automatically by simply turnning the Zagg off and on again...the only way to get it to pair again with my iPad, is to completely turn off the iPad and start over again with the pairing process...very frustrating when you are in the middle of trying to purchase something on iTunes and not sure if the purchase actually went thru? So odd...so frustrating! I hope there is a solution soon...as I love the keyboard - all backlit and cool...but right now, I want to throw it through the window...it's so bad, that I'm actually using my desktop to write this comment instead of my $600 iPad! UGH.

As an update to my keyboard issue. I have noticed that if I press the keyboard Sleep key three times, it wakes up the keyboard and continues the BT pairing. However, if I press any other keys (including the Home key) it will NOT keep the pairing from that point forward, no matter what I do. When that happens I have to switch off the keyboard and turn off the iPad BT then turrn them both back on to reinitiate the pairing.

Try this and let me know if it works for you as well as it works for me. I am having FAR less disconnect problems (basically zero) since I discovered this.

I have the same disconnection issues with my Zagg keypad and iPad Air and it's extremely frustrating. I like many other believe it's an apple issue because prior to this ipad I had the previous one (which I broke) and it also had frustrating intermittent connection problems with the keypad which was a LOGITECH. Coincidence - two different make keypads both with same issues with apple, unlikely. My children also have ipad minis coupled to Zagg keypads (issued by school)and have the same issues.Either Zagg and Logitech have major issues or it's apple. Apple please talk to these companies if you can't sort it out yourselves. BTW - This has failed to operate three times while typing this - so have to turn screen off and try again - INFURIATING-PLEASE FIX IT APPLE!!

Hi,

I recently upgraded to Mini iPad w/Retina (iOS 8.1 release 12B410) + Zagg Folio and had the exact same disconnect issue. Here is how I solved it:

I read the Folio menu and found that it recommended users to switch off the Folio power for prolong period of not using the iPad - believe it is applicable to all iPad, iPad Air, and iPad Mini that use Zagg Folio cases. When I am done using the iPad and close it, I simply switch OFF the Folio power. Even after mins or hours, I can simply open the iPad and punch in the log in PIN on the iPad numeric keys (I actually notice the bluetooth indicator on the top right corner is still grayed out at that point). If I switch on the Folio power at that point, there are a few very fast blinking and the bluetooth indicator will stay white. Since iPad+Folio are connected, I can actually punch in my PIN and log in fine.. Once I am logged in the iPad, the Folio keyboard will work just fine. This is not really technical issues between the iPad and Folio. I believe it is simply the connection sequence that needs to happen between the two units - perhaps this is how to wake/connect the bluetooth once the iPad is in sleep mode. So far it has been working great for me.

In summary,

(1) when done working on the iPad, simply close it and SWITCH OFF the Folio, and

(2) when start working on the iPad again, open it and SWITCH ON the Folio.

(3) as soon as the bluetooth indicator on the top right corner of the iPad stops blinking (only takes about 1-2 seconds) and stays lit up (white), the Folio keyboard can be used to log in.

copying in the issue I'm having - not the same issue as most in the thread, but just in case anyone else is seeing my issue. zaag folio with 1st gen ipad air (occurred with iOS7 and iOS8)

The keyboard connects via bluetooth and was working for several months just fine, however I have recently started using bluetooth speakers with the ipad. When I use the speakers they also connect fine, and the keyboard stays connected at first. They at some point after (1) disconnecting (turning off) the speaker and (2) putting the ipad in idle (i.e., not using the keyboard) the keyboard stops working. The keyboard still shows as connected, but doesn't function. In this state the ipad soft keyboard doesn't appear on the screen (because it thinks it has a keyboard connected) but the keys do nothing. The light on the caps key flashes when I hit keys I think. The only way I've found that will enable me to reconnect is to "forget" the keyboard, re-start the ipad (power down and back up) then re-pair the keyboard. Simpy forgetting and re-pairing does not work, I have to have the reboot step. This is obviously pretty annoying.

Battery is fully charged. I have tried with some bluetooth headphones as well and the same thing happens. It doesn't happen consistently after first use of the speaker - sometimes I'll get several times of turning speaker on and off before it happens, sometimes it happens first time after i turn off the speaker. It always happens though.

before the Zagg I had a logitech keyboard. The Zagg is vastly superior as a keyboard, but the logitech did not have this same issue, making me think it's zagg (or zag vs ios). zagg service is great, but the new keyboard they replaced it with has the same problem. because it worked for a while just fine and only started playing up when I was using bluetooth audio I assume that is factoring in.

I have an ipad air 2 with a zagg keyboard. Bought last Christmas. Iam having same problems with it losing connection. I figured out that you have to make sure its fully charged then turn it off and turn off blue tooth in settings. Then turn on zagg then blue tooth and it has worked every time. Its bloody irritating that these well funded companies with all their research employees can't figure out how to stop this from happening. I guess they were so busy patting themselves on the back for making the biggest quarterly profit in history that they forgot the bread and butter of their business!

I was having the same problem. I had to turn the Bluetooth off then turn it on again and resync the keyboard to the IPad. I think I found a "fix" by accident. I was pressing the "home" button (the square key on the upper left corner of the keyboard) trying to get it to work. I accidently held it so long the Siri came on. After depressing the key again, it took me to the homepage where I could then use the keyboard with various apps. Hope this helps!

SuzanneSpartanFan. Thank you for that - it worked for me! My Logitech bluetooth keyboard would not stay connected to my iPad so I actually bought a new one (the make is Freedom which I've never heard of before!). But the same thing kept happening and I was getting keyboard not connected. The next time it happened I did what you suggested and pressed the home key for a few seconds. Voila! The keyboard woke up and the bluetooth connected automatically. Fingers crossed this works everytime!
