Can’t turn off iMessage sound
Despite sounds turned off in notification center for iMessages I still receive a swoosh sound on each new message.

So is this on my iPod or in iTunes somewhere because my iPod does not have a screen like the one in your screenshot at all 😟
Hi,
Pagemakers2's post has always been in Mountain Lion and categorised for Messages (That's how I found it - by selecting the Messages Filter
I am not sure how you thought you were joining a Thread in iPad.
Looking on my iPhone I can find no Settings to Messages Sounds that are separate other then the new message sound.

Hi,
I have re-looked at the date of the first post and the date of my first reply.
There seems to have been a delay of a few days.
It may have been it was in iPad at first.
In iOS you can change the New Messages sound but not the sound for Sending Messages

Hi,
That may be what was done.
However as I pointed out in my post of Oct 17th 2012 the setting in Messages itself overrides this.

HI,
The Alerts section of the Messages Preferences has disappeared in Messages 8 (Mavericks)
The only thing you can change is the Messages Received sound in the General section of the Preferences.
This gives you access to that one sound from Messages and then the System Sounds and any User Sounds you have. (~/Library/Sounds)
The other sounds for various actions such as the ringer sound used for incoming AV invites remain and the App still uses them - it's just that you can't change them from within the settings.
In the Applications Folder you can right Click the app and then use "Show Package Contents"
Navigate to the Resources folder.
This has all the sounds iChat and Messages 7 had. Obviously they could be replaced with files of the same name. (they are unlikely to stay in place at each update.)
It would also be against the End User License.

you need to go to system preferences, and find the notifications folder. click on that and then when you scroll down on the left hand side the 'messages' folder will come up. at the bottom a tiki box will say 'play sound for notifications' click it so the box does not have a checkmark and youre good to go! 🙂
Hi,
I think you might need these:-
The Original Post reads:-

I have emphasized the leading part.
MrD46's "Me too" was only hours later.
Also this thread is in Mountain Lion and you have posted pics from Yosemite.
A year and two months after this 2012 Thread started maddybawden posted:
Re: Can’t turn off iMessage sound This has the Pics from Mountain Lion at the time.
At that time in Messages you also needed to turn the Sound Off Re: Can’t turn off iMessage sound as I pointed out in the October of 2012.
