Airplay mirroring says "no devices detected"

I have a mid 2012 (brand new) macbook pro. Brand new apple TV bought at the same time. Apple TV is on and connected to same network as my macbook pro. I just want to mirror my macbook to my new TV via apple TV. Airplay mirroring on macbook pro says "no devices detected" and is grayed out with no option to change or have it look again after a restart of both Macbook pro, TV and apple TV. Any help out there for this one? Mine is a macbook pro compatible with airplay and I have mountain lion.

I have had the same issue. It has to be a bug mountain lion. also, rebooting your router will most likely not help you. The devices do need to go to Apples servers for 'push notifications' for some functions. If you are having the same issue as me where Airplay on your computer appears and then dissapears then that means that it has worked and the problem is defintely not your router or ISP. Does anybody know how to reset or refresh the Airplay feature in OSX?? The frustrating bit to me is that there is no recourse when the airplay icon does not appear.

Your problem is most likely that the protocol used to advertise that AppleTV is available on your network isn't working. The only way you can prove that it's an issue localized to your laptop is if your iPhone was able to see the AppleTV and mirror its display to it on the same network that the laptop is currently not able to see it on.

I was using Airplay successfully on iPad and MacBook Pro until today when it suddenly stopped working today. The symptom was the same as the issue on this thread. No airplay button on either device.

Reset of all devices did not work. The Display window in System Preferences showed "No devices available" and were greyed out.

Rebooting the router resolved the issue. The button is now available on all devices.

Had the same problem as many of the other posters, no communication from apple TV to computers and IO devices, even though apple TV was working (no icon in main menu bar - mirror option greyed out - "no Devices Available").

Disconnected the Modem and turned off the wifi on my lap tops and ipad and started everthing up again, that reset everything and all is good again.

Thanks for the thread !🙂

Found this thread in trying to fix the same problem that others were having with Macbook Pro and iOS devices not recognizing my Apple TV. Tried turning airplay off and on using the settings in Apple TV, which occasionally worked until the ATV went to sleep and then the connection dropped. I reset my wireless extender that was providing network access and my ATV. It solved the problem.

Why do people always think it's a network problem. We all know apple does not know how to cross layer three networks so if your not at home you will have problems connecting your apple devices. The fact remains that eve if you are on the same layer three network as the apple TV your MAC will have intermittent problems connected to other apple devise.

This is an APPLE problem, plain and simple.. They know about it but they don't care enough to do anything because people are confused about the problem so they think it's a network problem... It's not!

Apple is not a networking company, they are a consumer electronics company and thus they know nothing about the network or how to make devices talk to each other reliably.

You won’t see any resolution to these problems any time soon…

Happy Tinkering!

In my experience to date, Apple updates are downgrades that screw up your settings. Go to settings on the Apple TV device with that crappy remote, make sure Airplay is 'on', then when you go to settings on your computer, under 'Displays', it should detect the Airplay device. Any update will probably delete your choice, so you'll have to do it again.

NO MORE downgrade UPDATES please !!!
