Major UI Lag in Logic Pro 9.1.7 on OS 10.8?

Hi,

I've just completed my first session in Logic 9.1.7 on a Mac Pro Quad Xeon 2.6 after upgrading to Mountain Lion 10.8. I got through it, but experienced the following new bug (as compared to running in Lion 10.7.4:

I noticed that if Logic is currently playing when I double click on a plugin in the channel strip, and then try to stop the playback (keyboard or by clicking the transport in the arrange window), I will get from a 5-45 second lag before the app responds and actually stops. No mouse or keyboard commands seem to work while it's hanging up.

Workaround: Only open plugin windows when playback is stopped, and then playing and stopping works fine (although maybe a little more laggy than in the former OS still).

Is anyone else experiencing this or have any better workaround ideas?

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7), Quad 2.66GHz, 16GB, 18TB HD / RAID

Have installed 10.8.2. Can't wait to try it out in the morning and hopefully I can start making music again!

Insane how this bug could've slipped through beta testing!!!

Apple... Choose the right people to do you beta-testing next time, for example the user "seantyas" that is a known and respected trance producer. Why not call Benno de Goeij and Armin van Buuren that are also world famous and work with Logic and are depending on a stable release of OSX and Logic.

Pick beta-testers from the elite of each and every genre of users! They will notice and will give you feedback right away!

Regards, Nicolas from Sweden.

Nicolas, unfortunately that's not Apple's way, they either use mostly an in house group of testers or in the case of Final Cut X they release a Beta program and let the paying public report the bugs... that didn't work out so well for them. As far as I know most (if not all) of the original Logic (user) beta test team was let go not too long after Apple purchased Logic.

I can confirm that 10.8.2 does not solve the issues discussed.

I'm pretty amazed at this issue. One of the hardest bugs to work around...

My fault, really, for updating from Lion. It was a tweaky OS for professional use, but this is much worse.

I have sent feedback, but am hoping to speak with a human being about this. I have several projects that are suffering.

1) Unless these people betatest Mountain Lion - how would they detect a problem with Logic and Moutain Lion?

2) How many known/respected/elite Logic users who "are depending on a stable release of OS X" etc will rely on an alpha/beta version of an OS to do their work anyway? :-)

3) Answer to #2: I'll do it. Where do I send the invoice? :-)

Since those who know about Apple's internal beta and alphatest processes aren't allowed to discuss this subject in public, I can't see any reason to assume that you are right. I assume that "as far as I know" actually means "as far as I know, and I don't really know"... :-)

As I recall, it was Markus who mentioned it, I was in communication with him around that time. He said something to the effect that we're going to -have- to lose the bulk of our test team we've developed over the years, but you are right in the sense I never heard exactly what was decided. Markus was always so straight forward (blunt) I never doubted him.
