Mouse cursor disappears.

I tried with closing flash apps/websites, restarted iMac, updated to newest flash plugin but still using for example Photoshop, afer a few minutes cursors turns invisible.
I searched in forum for OSX Lion and there this problem was mentioned several times. Does it mean that it was NOT SOLVED?

I don't want to be a "me too", but I am having the same problem, I think since upgrading to Lion, Mac Pro. Mostly with PSCS6, every several minutes, but also with other apps, less so.

When this happens I just do a fast Cmd-Tab twice, ie, next app-previous app, and the cursor comes back (until the next time). I was a real mess until I figured out switching apps brought the cursor back.

It takes a fraction of a second. Hope that Apple/Adobe can straighten this out.

finally, maybe a solution!!

Some user talked about a java problem.

You can control your version of java typing in terminal

java -version

I have got 1.6 version.

I downloaded from oracle's website:

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk7-downloads-1880260.h tml

latest version of java SE

1.7

After restart, check the new version in terminal.

Yesterday a full-day working painting with photoshop.... and cursor NEVER dissapeared!

Only one issue when I did a wrong passage with Jdowloder my cursor dissapeared but not like before.

I will try do some other test to be secure that this absurd problem was solved.

So I hopped into this fray some time ago, and have since followed with mixed feelings since then.

However, I would like to add jsut one thing:

Having done nothing else in the name of fixing this problem, when the batteries died in my Magic Trackpad, I didn't have replacement batteries on hand, so I plugged in an old trackball I had laying around, and since then, there has been ZERO CURSOR PROBLEM.

curiouser and curiouser...

One solution that works for me comes from a CNET reviewer:

http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57489866-263/incompatible-pdf-viewer-may-ca use-problems-in-mountain-lion/

If you are experiencing odd problems with browser features or strange cursor behavior after upgrading to Mountain Lion, then you might try checking for the presence of the Adobe PDF-handling plug-ins called "AdobePDFViewNPAPI.plugin" and "AdobePDFView.plugin." These will be located in the /Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ folder and can be removed manually to uninstall them. You can then download the Adobe Reader plug-in from Adobe's Web site if you would like to use this instead of Apple's PDF engine

I noticed the problem using Safari and CS 6 Fireworks - it is especially annoying doing screen capture tutorials with SnapzPro - i have a custom cursor - largish - that records well, but on occasion it would simply turn to a cross hair or something else in fireowrks and simply disappear in Safari.

I am running OSX 10.8.2 on am iMac dual core i7 and macbook pro i7.

I expected that a Java update would be available via Apple Software update or via Firefox but this does not seem to be the case. With the help of Tom Nelson from About.com I found this page at Oracle with an explanation and link to the download site:

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/security/alert-cve-2013-0422-1896849.ht ml?ssSourceSiteId=ocomen

I will install it and see if my cursor problem is solved.

This is very frustrating. I use photoshop daily for retouching photographs and it happens most when I use the clone and brush tool. My temporary solution is a hot corner I use called 'mission control'. I move my cursor to the top left corner of the screen and all the open windows show, then my mouse cursor reappears. Hope that helps some of you.

Really ridiculous, isn't it? I had to upgrade to Mountain Lion to install Media Composer and I certainly regret it. Very unstable in so many ways. But you know what? It's all worth it because it's REALLLLLY COOOOOOL when I download something and the little download icon takes off like a rocket across the screen and flies into my download folder on the doc, WOW!!!
Seriously Apple... Just make my lovely cursor stay on the screen. Maybe it got shot down by the flying download...

In the meantime I will install MC on my old Snow Leopard partition and see what happens...

I'm glad that it solved your problem as mine.

I read every post, in every language, for months and some user talked about a java problem (apple doesn't supporto more java updates)

So I tried to update manually JAVA, everything of java and check in terminal my version (1.6 before).

Now, are months that I paint in photoshop whitout mouse cursor problems.

with that problem, digital painting became impossibile!

I have Java 1.6 I have a serious mouse disconnection problem (for years!) but I am not keen to alter my system without knowing what I am doing and the possible problems of doing so. The address that you give does not seem (to me) to offer a solution. The whole complex page of many downloads seem to offer an SDK which, as a simple user of the Mac, I certainly don't want to get involved in.

Can you please tell me where on that page there is a simple updater for Java? I could then download it to my bootable clone to see what happens.

Thanks.

Just wanted to add my experience in here; Very glad I found this discussion. Upgraded to 10.8.2 from 10.6.8 three days ago in order to use XCode 4. I'm a very heavy Photoshop user, currently have CS5. Today while processing several images I noticed this cursor problem. Drove me nuts. I'm using a USB mouse and the behavior seems to be when using large brushes (for example 1600), and you move the mouse over a pallette, the cursor disappears. Doesn't happen all the time, but I can consistently re-create it. In other words, I can move the cursor back and forth between the image and the pallette several times and eventually the cursor will disapper. Command/Tab brings the missing cursor back. I sure hope this gets resolved quick. This is very annoying. I'm going to consider some of the solutions mentioned here. Thanks for all the information here!

OK I have read every post in this thread.

I use my Mac heavily all day in PS and LR and never had an issue at all. I was, however, using a Wacom tablet exclusively.

When I replaced my work machine with a new iMac I took the old (reliable) mini (2012) home.

I use it at home with a mouse. Not a tablet.

I immediately started losing the cursor. At first I thought it was the funky old MS mouse I was using but nooo, the brand new wireless magic mouse exhibited the same behavior.

The cursor can disappear almost at any time but usually (for me) disappears when the machine is idle for some time. I do switch resolutions from a connected big screen TV on occasion but even when mirroring is off and the resoltion is set properly for the display the problem occurs.

I never lose the cursor on my new iMac when using the tablet. I can't say I would if I used a mouse but the fact is that the phenomena has ONLY appeared when I have connected a mouse (wireless or corded) to the machine.
