Duplicate notes? Notes not syncing?

Is anyone having problems with duplicate notes in Mountain Lion?

When I first open up Notes.app on MacBook, I am greeted with "This Mac can't connect to iCloud because of a problem with (my iCloud account)."

I open iCloud Preferences, but everything looks fine.

And these settings are exactly the same on my iPhone 4S.

It looks like my MacBook thinks I have two iCloud accounts in the Note.app but I should only have one. Unchecking the Notes box in iCloud Preferences, only takes one iCloud account off of notes. So, even with iCloud turned totally off and signed out, my notes application still thinks I am signed in.

So when I add a noted from the MacBook, the note gets duplicated just seconds afterwards.

Sometimes it even makes three copies.

None of the notes from my Mac sync to my iPhone and none from iPhone sync to my Mac.

Sometimes, the application on the Mac will crash, interestingly enough exactly at the time when my iPhone and Mac *should* be communicating together.

Anyone else have these issues? Or just me?

Thanks in advance.

Nothing yet. I hope that this thread catches the attention of a Genius.

Just curious, for the people who are having this issue, before Mountain Lion, did you sync your notes between the Mac and iDevice through iTunes? I did. And I never turned that option off, and now it isn't an option. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

I am also having this issue and I have tried the following:

  • Restarting the computer
  • Logging out and back into iCloud.
  • Disabling Note syncing alone.

However, my notes are syncing, albeit in duplicate accounts, and when I disable Notes syncing I am left with one iCloud list header and my Notes continue to sync.

I am aware that I am being given full functionality, yet the fact that the software seems to be syncing information without me specifically asking it to, and that when I do choose to sync it occurs twice, bothers my pedantic mind.

I do hope there is some resolution to the problem soon as I can see that a number of us are affected by it.

GreenStraitJacket,

Before Mountain Lion, I was syncing mail Notes on my Mac (technically, on the mac.com and later the iCloud server) with the Notes app on my iPhone, not using iTunes sync just using the IMAP mail server.

I saw two identical iCloud accounts within Notes, and duplicates of all my notes.

Following a suggestion from someone in the Macworld forums, I disabled Notes syncing within System Preferences->iCloud (which also disables it within System Preferences->Mail, Contacts & Calendars). My notes are continuing to sync instantly between my Mac and my iPhone and the Notes app on my Mac is no longer showing duplicate notes or duplicate iCloud accounts.

So... It seems to be working (even though it shouldn't be...), but this might be a glitch for those of us that had Notes syncing via IMAP in iCloud set up before upgrading to Mountain Lion. I don't think it's happening to those who didn't use pre-Mountain Lion notes syncing in the Mac Mail app.
