Duplicate notes? Notes not syncing?

Is anyone having problems with duplicate notes in Mountain Lion?

When I first open up Notes.app on MacBook, I am greeted with "This Mac can't connect to iCloud because of a problem with (my iCloud account)."

I open iCloud Preferences, but everything looks fine.

And these settings are exactly the same on my iPhone 4S.

It looks like my MacBook thinks I have two iCloud accounts in the Note.app but I should only have one. Unchecking the Notes box in iCloud Preferences, only takes one iCloud account off of notes. So, even with iCloud turned totally off and signed out, my notes application still thinks I am signed in.

So when I add a noted from the MacBook, the note gets duplicated just seconds afterwards.

Sometimes it even makes three copies.

None of the notes from my Mac sync to my iPhone and none from iPhone sync to my Mac.

Sometimes, the application on the Mac will crash, interestingly enough exactly at the time when my iPhone and Mac *should* be communicating together.

Anyone else have these issues? Or just me?

Thanks in advance.

HEY APPLE...it's been 10 months. This is an important and pretty simple app. Fix the ****** problem.

On a broader note, Apple sofware does seem to be having the same problems that Windows software has had for years: It's becoming bloated and unreliable, and the fixes are not happening. This apple fan-boy is starting to look at non-Apple solutions seriously for the first time in a long time.

For me this worked. I turned off the NOTES checkbox in iCloud on my macbook, and i turned it off on my iCloud on my iPhone. The notes remained on my computer, a single version but dissapeard from my phone. Then i turned it back on my phone, but not on my macbook, the ones on my macbook showed up on my phone and when I added a new item on my phone it showed up on my computer. So moral of the story is to uncheck the iCloud NOTES on the mac and leave it checked on the iCloud for the phone.

I think I have the answer

Thankfully, this has a rather straightforward fix.

1. Open Terminal. (Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app)

2. Quit the Notes.app.

3. Enter in the terminal WITHOUT the quotes "rm -rf ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Notes"

This probably will work.

it may switch the icloud option for notes off so to solve this go to

System prefrences/mail contacts & calanders/icloud... make sure notes is ticked.

Let me know if this workes.

This worked for me after following this process and rebooting. Turning back on Notes in the iCloud settings alone did not work until after I rebooted. Probably a relogin might do it as well. Thanks! Cheers!

Warning - if this goes wrong - you lose all your notes !!!

this is really screwed up for me now.

this used to be simple and "just worked" but now it is a mess. Notes used to be part of the mail app - now it seems a new app has been put out which just does not work. this Icloud addon is just made it more unusable

Apple had this right before ... then broke the golden rule "don't fix something that is not broken" is now unuesable.

We used to use apple as our core for our business - it was good safe and relaible - but now we are in the process of replacing all apple devices out. Not long ago you would sit in a meeting and 9 out 10 people would have a Apple device, be it a macBook, iPhone or iPad. Last week I was in meetings with ten blue chip companies in AU, and was the only person that had an iphone. In one meeting I asked the CIO of a leading bank what he did with is iPad and he anwsered "Gave it to my son, as it was not reliable for work, we now don't have any apple product here"

I think apple has lost the plot. "It just works" now has a big NOT after it
