black screen after login, Mountain Lion on Macbook Retina

I've been using Mountain Lion for a while, and regularly I get a black screen, right after the login screen (after entering the password).

Often I have to reboot several times until it boots properly.

It is not clear when or why it happens: it could be some 3rd party code (gfxCardStatus, CUDA 5.0 sdk, steer mouse, Microsoft Intellimouse driver?) or something else.

Does anyone else have a similar issue?

Hi,

My Retina hasn't been affected by the issue again since I turned on auto login.

I've turned on Require password immediatly after sleep, and it does the job: since then I power off my Mac rarely.

Apart from these issues, I now work on my Retina, doing web design & development, and it really is an awesome computer. The whole user experience is excellent, the screen is fantastic, and everything is so blazingly fast!

I now hope the issues we encounter are youthfull software issues...

Thanks for the tips about auto login!

I am experiencing this Problem aswell. It does not occour on my old MacBook Air nor on my iMac. Only on my 15" Retina MacBook Pro. I already tried resetting my DRAM. Did anyone of you already try the 10.8.2 Dev seed? Hope that gets it nailed. Also: If you want to fix this issue (temporarily) without rebooting you can log into your Guest account, log out and then login to you real account.

hello, everyone,

right now I'm writing from my iPad as I continuously get the black screen after login with my rMBP and 10.8.1!!

I can no longer login!

I really hope there will be a fix soon...

While I was writing this I started my rMBP with the alt-key in the recovery mode and did a restart from there. Afterwards I could Login just fine...

ML/rMBP works in mysterious ways...

I think the best alternative would be to call apple tech support and have them open a case number, if anything it will at least raise awareness about the issue and hopefully its priority.

It took me quite a few calls to have the issue raised to the engineering team, but I received a call back from them and they said there is a fix in the works, hopefully the final version of 10.8.2 will resolve the problem. I've tried just about everything suggested by tech support and the only thing that's worked is the automatic login. Still though, calling to open a case number over it can't hurt, my logic being that the more calls they receive about this, the more resources they will assign to resolving it.
