No sound with mirroring

I successfully mirror my iMac to my Apple TV, but I don't get sound to the Apple TV. I Opt+click the volume icon on the menu bar, but Apple TV is not an option under output. When I go to Sound preferences, my Apple TV shows up as an output option, but with the Type of "AirPlay".

Does mirroring provide sound to the Apple TV, or is that only an option through AirPlay?

SOLUTION:

After attempting many of the suggested solutions, I found one that worked. I was unable to select AppleTV as audio output- it would always automatically resort back to 'internal speakers'. All I had to do was restart my Time Capsule/Router. It would finally allow me to select 'AppleTV' as audio output.

Enjoy.

For my Macbook Pro Retina 15", I need to click on the Mirror Icon and choose "Match Desktop Size To" -> "This Mac" in order to have sound. If the desktop size is matching with the "Apple TV" (which is 1080p), then there is no sound. Probably it's about the network bandwidth. My Macbook desktop size is using the "Best for Retina display" option.
