I really dislike the unified omnibar as well. I waited as long as I could before updating to Safari 6.
The one thing I can offer is this:
If you press CMMD + L, it will take you to the address bar. If you type a single word and press enter, it will do a google search. However, if you type a single word and hold CTRL before pressing enter, it will do what safari used to do, it will take you to that website. When you hold down CTRL you will see Safari highlight "go to site" in the list of suggestions; releasing it will cause it to highlight "google search". You can also see that as you hold CTRL the icon switches from a magnifying glass (search) to a globe (web address.) This also works in Chrome and I find it is the only way to make either Safari or Chrome even remotely bearable.
There's other key shortcuts that may be of use:
Holding CMMD before pressing enter will do a google search in a new tab.
Holding both CMMD and CTRL before pressing enter will go to the website in a new tab.
Holding down just SHIFT will do a google search in a new window.

Apple please add an option to turn off the OmniBar and have separate URL and SEARCH fields. It is extremely annoying!

If that's what you want in a browser, download Firefox. Furthermore, this is a user-to-user community. You're talking to other Apple users here, not Apple itself.

Thank you for your (lack of) insight, but I like Safari and do not want to use Firefox. I just don't like the OmniBar. Further, do you really think no one from Apple reads these forums, ever? Would seem smart for them to look at large threads about one complaint like this one and take it as possibly useful user feedback.
Apple doesn't read these forums, no. This is strictly a user-to-user community. If you want Apple to read your feedback, you have to leave them feedback, not rant here.
