Mail bug in Mountain Lion

There seems to be a new bug introduced to Mail in Mountain Lion.

In Mail preferences, on the Composing tab, you can still set "Send new messages from account of selected mailbox." Unfortunately, this setting seems to have no effect and all new mail is sent by default from the first account in your mail accounts list.

Any idea how to work around this?

Thanks!

I'm sorry to hear that. I was able to resolve my issue with this solution. My issue was 2 email addresses, one using exchange and the other using IMAP. We have two companies (and two domains) on a shared outlook exchange server. By reordering the mailboxes my exchange account went back to being the default reply-from email address (instead of IMAP). I also have 3 other gmail accounts in my Apple Mail, but those have not been a problem. Good luck with your issue, and I'm sorry this didn't resolve it.

The suggestion is appreciated, but what you're describing is actually the problem, not the solution.

Having all replies sent from whatever email account is at the top of a list is bizarre and problematic behavior. Replies should (by default) be sent from whatever account received them, as is done in every other email client out there (including pre-Mountain Lion Mail).

I know it's not an issue for people who don't have multiple addresses, or who don't move messages out of the Inbox before replying (which is what seems to trigger the oddity), or who simply aren't concerned with whether reply accounts match recipient accounts. But for the rest of us, ML's Mail is truly an annoyance!

Yep, but I reckon that with 18 pages in this thread, most people don't just read through them all but maybe just read the first few and then reply.

It's absolutely mind-blowing, how many times we have explained the problem and still people don't get it.

There is no solution/fix/work-around - it's a bug in Mail and can only be fixed by Apple!

I have this exact same problem ... multiple e-mail addresses, rules that sort incoming mail into "On My Mac" folders ... and then the BUG so that when I reply to one of the e-mails in an "On My Mac" folder, it always sends from one default address, instead of from the addresss that received the message.

This is a BUG that did not exist in previous versions of Mail. It did not occur in Lion, it's only been since I "upgraded" to Mountain Lion. Apple needs to fix it ASAP - please!

Emails that are replied to from any folder that is NOT the actual inbox (for example those that are moved by a rule or archived or whatever) will reply from your default email address and NOT the email address that the email is addressed to. Does that make sense now?

About a month ago, i had a different issue with Apple and had the tech also check this and they replicated the problem perfectly and submitted a ticket. They had not heard of the problem before that, however.

Having the same problem. I use rules for all of my forums and email lists. Having to remember to change the email is a *huge* annoyance because it causes bounced emails when it's not right. I also have businesses and wrong email addresses cause me a great deal of stress when I'm trying to keep my personal and business lives separate.

I'm also not at all pleased that RSS was removed.

It seems like with every "upgrade" they make, I like Apple less. The only thing it's got going for it nowadays is the lack of viruses and the lack of those stupid ads and hidden software bundled into every bit of PC software available. I've been a mac user since the 90s, and now I'm actually considering buying a PC for my next computer.
