Hi all, I can't seem to open any of my microsoft office programs since I upgraded to Mountain Lion today.
Anyone else having this problem? I know they say it's compatible but it keeps opening then closing.. screen shot enclosed.

Are you running these from your downloads folder? Also, please repost after opening all of the triangles in the Get Info window (More Info, etc)
I am opening these from the icons on my taskbar at the bottom of the screen..

When you uninstalled Office (before reinstalling it), how did you do it? Did you use the Remove Office application? Or did you just drag the apps to the trash?
I uninstalled using their application in the file folder.
Then after it said it was uninstalled, I got my disc out to re-install.
This was of course not in SAFE MODE. Don't know if I should mentioned that..Do you think I should just take this to the Genius Bar at the Apple Store?
I forget. Did you ever create a new user and try it there?
No - did you want me to sign in as GUEST or really make a separate user?
Ok. Create a new user on the Mac, log into it, and try to open Word from there.
It works.

When I opened Word, it had this -- which didn't happen when I tried opening it in my account..What gives?
Also, my trackpad has been skipping all over the place..
I had a feeling it might work in a different user account. This is probably good news. Did you go through the setup assistant, and then try it, and it worked?
Yeah the screenshot shows you what it was doing..asked for my info to add to the address book or something (idr) and now it works.. but now what? i don't want to use this guest account 😟 everything is on the other account..what is causing this problem? i had rebooted everything not too long ago...in February I think...
Don't worry. We're still troubleshooting. Restart your Mac, sign into your regular account and try again. Assuming it still doesn't work, then:
From Finder, hold down the option key and click on Go in the menu bar. From the drop-down, click Library. This will open a Finder window with your User library selected. Navigate to Preferences. Within preferences, drag every file with the name com.microsoft.xxxxxx.plist onto your desktop (xxxxxxx will be a different name for each file). Then try to open Word again and see what happens.

I took out the files you requested...and it looked like it was going to work.
But it didnt.
What I noticed, when I open Word, all those files I took out, a copy of them showed up in that Preferences folder again...
It literally acted like it was going to work...the little assistant thing popped up and it asked to check for updates (which it did in the guest account too) THEN IT TRICKED ME.

It's normal that those pref files would be recreated. That's what we wanted to happen. In that same preferences folder, there's also a subfolder called Microsoft. Inside, delete the Office 2008 Settings.plist and see if it works.
Edit: Don't delete it. Drag it to the desktop for now.

By the way, you should be careful when posting screenshots. Your screenshot has your name and email address showing, which could be a privacy concern.
