Issues opening Microsoft Office 2008 programs with MTN LION?

Man, I really want to solve this one for you! I know what it's like to have computer issues while in school! I'm pretty sure there's either some kind of corruption in your User account or else some other application is interfering. Take a look at this article and see if anything helps. I think it's mostly stuff I already went through with you.

If you've run the installer, you must have SP2 installed, I would think. One last thing you might try is to also drag the rest of the files in the Preferences > Microsoft > Office 2008 folder to the desktop and try again.

You could also download Onyx (make sure you get the version for Mountain Lion). It's free and makes it easy to delete system caches and search for corrupt Preference files.

If none of these work, then yes I'd take it to the Genius Bar. They may balk at helping you if they think it's an Office problem. I'd recommend framing it as a User account issue. Tell them it works in a new user, and can they help you clean up your exisiting user so it will work there, too?

In any case, don't put those files from the desktop back. Just drag them to the Trash. Good luck. Keep us posted in this thread.

No -- Genius Bar ended up making a new admin account and just moved everything over.

They were stumped.

It's something in the Microsoft User Data file -- but he didn't know which file.

I could ask Microsoft Tech Support online, but that is really expensive.

This is the cheapest method until I can afford just getting MS 2011 :/

So maybe I will ask around to see if anyone has a copy.

Thanks for all your help last night! Such a bummer because now I lost all my browser bookmarks, lol..

Crazy. Well, at least you've got it working now. About your browser bookmarks, did you not have them syncing with iCloud? You should be able to get them back by signing into the same iCloud account.

Another possibility, if you weren't using Safari and iCloud is to export the bookmarks from the browser on your old account and import them into the browser on the new one.
