    Time Machine causing stuttering.


    Had sound intermittintly stuttering, and some video frames dropped, when watching full screen video, such as Netflix, after installing ML. Same in all browsers including Safari, Chrome, and Firefox. Finally noticed that when this is happening the time machine is doing a backup. Stopping the backup cleared up the problem. This was never a problem in Lion where I watched netflix full screen for over a year.


    Under ML time machine backups seem to bog down the computer in many ways more than before.

    Mine did it without time aching enabled. Just as it was also suggested that the hard drive has something to do with it.  I have the 256 SSD drive, so speed isn't the issue of the drive either.   Also does it on my 7200 secondary drive in that same iMac.  So, it's none of these things.  It's so random and bizarre that I don't think Apple knows what to do.  Perhaps they can just take my two iMacs back and give me two new model ones as I'm going to assume it won't have these issues.

    Mine also had shutdowns with no visible applications running (and Time Machine) disabled.


    I would boot up, leave it alone with just the screensaver active, then come back in an hour to find it's bombed out and restarted itself.

    I switched back to Lion soon after the stutteing started on my iMac 3.4GHz i7. After reading some suggestions, I deinstall VLC completely and then upgreaded to MLion. The sound stuttering started almost right away. However, I also noticed that Spotlight was busily indexing the file system. I looked at the Console and addressed the issues being reported. After Spotlight finished, the stuttering ended.


    I have being running MLion for a few days now with no hickups. I am not sure if this will work with you, but I consider myself lucky.

    I've never used or installed VLC.  So I'm not sure what the deal is with it.  And since I don't have it installed, that can't be the source of what's been causing my audio stutter.

    These kind of "solutions" make me recall the old days of Windows 95/98 where any piece of user mode code could be blamed to brake a non robust OS. I thought it wouldn't happen with "The Most Advanced Operating System in the World"...

    Apple has their head so far up "something" that they have lost all bearing.  Products aren't innovative, service is rude, products fail, and software is unreliable at best.  And their stock keeps dropping.  People aren't stupid. They talk and express frustrations.  This in turn affects sales and erodes confidence.  I guess we can see how well their censoring this thread has done.  


    All we want is honesty, transparency, and reliability.  They haven't given us any of this in a while.

    I'm going to redact that last statement.  Carlo the Troll would fall into this gray area.  He doesn't have this issue but likes to post because he finds it funny to throw others who genuinely have a problem on a wold goose chase.

    Look, buddy. I have two 27-inch iMacs (same age) that exhibit the same symptoms under the same conditions.


    Oh, one of them did develop a "proper" hardware fault (HDD thermal sensor packed-up, resulting in a cooked drive). I took that machine back; it was promptly fixed and back it came with a fresh Mountain Lion build. That, my friend, is a hardware fault.


    It was still exhibiting the same issue as my other iMac (the same issue others are having here) when it came back.


    Seriously, quit trolling. You can't be *that* much of a fanboi, can you? The problem is with Mountain Lion; is possibly a latency issue and hopefully the Apple brains are on the case. Simply suggesting that non-stupid people are taking their 27-inch behemoths back to the store is a little insulting.

    I do not think taking it back to the store is insulting. I do not think it is ML. I am tired of the rudeness in ths forum. And every single comment from BarrettF77 is insulting to everyone else with inteligence.

    Carlo, BYE.  and I've never insulted those having the issue here.  I merely want apple's feet held to the fire.  It's our lives and livelihoods being affected here.  You're not helping, so take I.campbell's advice.

    BarretF77 is annoyed and frustrated that something that once worked properly has now ceased to do so since the new OS was installed. You're just annoying. I suggest you STFU and go somewhere else to be annoying because you certainly aren't helping.

    Both you and BarretF777 are not looking for help. You both came to insult others, insult Apple, insult help. You would not appreciate help, even if you saw it. And truthfully you both have exausted any life lines.
