Screen colour temperature changes (bluer) when running web video, iDVD

An odd intermittent issue I noticed since upgrade from Lion to Mountain Lion.

Noticed on MacBook Pro 15" (high resolution), Early 2011 (MacBookPro8,2).

When I launch iDVD the screen turns brighter and a more blue-ish hue. It reverts when I close iDVD.

Issue is not isolatied to iDVD, for example it also occurs when running BBC Olympics web video content:

Anyone know the cause or have a workaround? Driving me crazy!

go to color sync utility and run the verify and repair color profile thing in "Profile first aid" in, again, Color Sync Utility (in the utilities folder in the applications folder).

I have the same problem. OS X 10.8.2 on MacBook Pro 15 "Early 2011.

When I switch from onboard video to the discrete changes the color temperature. Using GFX card status the problem is obvious.

I tried all the steps in the previous post, I thought I had resolved but now the problem has come back!

Has anyone found a solution?

I have this problem too, I managed to find the error in the console here https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4473949

Since then I have tried to fresh install to find if an app was the problem, as Apple Geniuses were suggesting: it's not. I installed only Byword over 10.8.2 and it becomes blue.

Using a different Color Profile than the native one solves the problem, but they are blue!

Any updates on how to solve it?

I'm on 10.8.3. My path was a clean install to 10.8, migrate user settings, then upgrade to 10.8.2, then 10.8.3. MacBook Pro 6,2.

Here's what fixed it for me. Shut down. Start in Safe Mode; when the system comes up, shut down again.

I've been using my MacBook Pro for a couple weeks and so far the fix seems permanent. (You can verify that the system is switching the graphics cards by looking at About this Mac - the active card will say Main Display)

weldr -- I think you cracked it! Safe boot fixed tried and looks promising (I switched display mode a few times using gfxCardStatus over different boots).

I'm still on 10.8.2!

Massive thanks!

For those not wanting to Google Safe Mode:

  • Be sure your Mac is shut down.
  • Press the power button.
  • Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
  • Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
