Screen colour temperature changes (bluer) when running web video, iDVD

An odd intermittent issue I noticed since upgrade from Lion to Mountain Lion.

Noticed on MacBook Pro 15" (high resolution), Early 2011 (MacBookPro8,2).

When I launch iDVD the screen turns brighter and a more blue-ish hue. It reverts when I close iDVD.

Issue is not isolatied to iDVD, for example it also occurs when running BBC Olympics web video content:

Anyone know the cause or have a workaround? Driving me crazy!

go to color sync utility and run the verify and repair color profile thing in "Profile first aid" in, again, Color Sync Utility (in the utilities folder in the applications folder).

Giando, not to make you keep trying everything, but perhaps try the following. I went back and looked at my change log notes (ya I'm an IT guy so I log everything) and realized that I cleared some caches, here's exactly my steps.

Cleared the system kernel extension cache (I used root, you can sudo also):

kextcache -system-prelinked-kernel

kextcache -system-caches

Then I did the Safe Mode boot as Paullie outlined above.

I hope it works for you, if not then I hope someone fixes it because I agree, it was very annoying, especially if you have something like a 5K color profile because it switches from "page white" to "crazy bright blue"!

Thank you very much weldr, but it did not work.

I tried before giving your commands and doing safe boot and it did not work.

Then deleting the system cache with Onyx and doing safe boot! Unfortunately it does not work!

I do not know if I'm wrong something.

I turned off the switch of the video card and use only that AMD!

If I have time, I'll do a clean install.

Again, thank you!

I had this issue with my Early 2011 15" MacBook Pro. Here's what I did to fix it:

1. Reset the PRAM

http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11243

2. Reset the SMC

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

3. Run Onyx

http://www.titanium.free.fr/downloadonyx.php

I just went to the Automation tab and clicked Execute...I didn't change any check boxes. After it did it's thing, and I restarted my computer, I had no problems.

Hopefully this helps.

Here's what finally worked for me:

1. Run Onyx

Go to the Cleaning tab and click Execute (deletes system cache and other things)

2. Shut down immediately after Onyx is done. Don't restart.

3. The first time you start up after Onyx is done, start up in safe mode.

4. Shut down from safe mode, then startup normally.

It appears to work after three restarts...what an annyoing problem.
