Mac Mail 6 is missing the "spinning wheel" indicator when checking for new mail

If it is gone in this version, why not say it, however...

I would really like someone at Apple to explain why it is gone, surely that's not an unreasonable request from customers???

Apple Support...PLEASE replace the positive reinforcement of the spinning mail wheel. I have multiple mail accounts and as of ML, do not know when mail is working on a 'send'. Several times one of my outbount serves has not worked and I was left clicking around to see if my item was sent or not.

Hopefully, the removal of the wheel was an oversight, and not the result of some coding conflict.

Please bring back the wheel!

The wireless trackpad doesn't always register clicks so I've always used the spinning wheels in mail to know that my click on the mail fetch actually worked. Now it's annoying having to wait several seconds to see if mail downloads before knowing if I have to click the fetch mail button again. The functionality existed for the same reason it exists in all browsers, so the user knows something is happening and doesn't need to click again.

I too would like the wheel back. After all the cave man invented it. It should stay.

I can't imagine it ate up a ton of resources, or that there was a huge outcry to remove the wheel! I've searched for the "Remove the Mail Spinning Wheel" forum, but I can't find it.

Both me and my co-worker have numberous email accounts and depended on that indicator heavly. It is a shame that such a simple and useful feature was removed with no ability to toggle it back on. I wish I could switch back to the previous verson of mail simply for that alone. BRING IT BACK APPLE!!!

Ugh, Apple why do you have to "fix" things that work. I too have several accounts and It's reassuring to see the indicator as each is being checked.

I thought I'd get over it, but it has been bugging me for days. With multiple email accounts it would be nice to have some indication that mail is doing anything at all.

The ironic thing is they added an indicator to the size coloumn in finder when copying, but took away the checking email indicator. The latter being the more important of the two because copy operations already pop up a window with an indicator of its own. *sighs*

Pretty please with dollars on top bring back the email indicator apple?

Here is a workaround that I found:

In Mail App, in the menu bars goto Window>Activity. A small window will pop up, that when your mail accounts are being accessed will show their status. Move it around on your screen to a conveniant location. When you quit the mail app do not close the window and it will reappear in the same position when you launch Mail again.

Since the "spinning wheel" is no longer available I sort of use this as my indicator that my accounts are being accessed.

Might as well throw in my 2 cents worth. Yep would love to see the return of the spinning cartwheel, at least it gave you and indication that something was happening, especially for those times when no mail was there.

I have that window open already, unfortunatly it only ever shows anything if there is mail being received or sent, not just checking. Does yours behave the same way? Or can you see the checking of accounts with no new mail there as well? Thanks for the tip none the less. Cheers.

I agree that this is a badly needed visual indicator for those, like me, who have many accounts. What is the point of dropping a function that's so useful? Please send a "Provide Mail Feedback" notice to Apple regarding this.
