Mac Mail 6 is missing the "spinning wheel" indicator when checking for new mail

Before updating to Maountain Lion, when cheking for new mail in Mail, there was a little indicator ("spinning wheel") next to the Inbox to confirm it was actually working.

Since updating to Mountain Lion, the indicator isn't there. It's not that much of a big deal if it doesn't exist anymore, but it was good to have, and if it's just a setting I need to turn back on, then that would be cool, if I could find it 🙂

This is expected behavior. Apple removed the spinning indicator in Mountain Lion.

I also sent in the request via the above feedback link. I miss this little option and having the activity window open on a 13 inch screen can be a PIA at times. I have a visually disabled sister that relied on that wheel. She constantly forgets about the activity window even though I have asked her to just leave it open and when she opens mail, it will re-open when she opens mail again

Yes. I find the lack of the Spinning Wheel most frustrating. It was a crucial element in knowing that access was being made to the Mail Server (s).

A user needs this feedback. It's a bit like response time really. Too slow and we all get very frustrated.

All my gear is Apple. I don't understand why the Apple Software Design Staff removed or inadvertantly removed this feature. The coding for it would have been reasonably simple given the complexity ot the balance of the software.

Apple gear is not inexpensive and I am sure Apple do not deliberately set out to disappoint or frustrate.

Apple should ensure the next release of OSX corrects this anomily.

I too am dumbfounded about this change. Overall, my jump from 10.6 to 10.8 has me concerned. Usually an OS upgrade feels good; improvements are welcomed. But this time I'm finding lots of little things missing or changed that make my computing experience more difficult. Anyway, the other thing that I think is missing is the alert symbol on the account when a message check has failed. I have an email provider that doesn't always work and having a lasting indicator that the last check didn't actually connect is very useful.
