dvd player does not work after installing mountain lion

I'm so glad it worked! Wish I could take credit for actually figuring it out but thank goodness for serendipity. Now, it'd be nice to know why it worked 🙂.

Had the same problem with my old MacBook Pro (late 2008). Tried everything that I found on the support forums, but nothing worked.

Yesterday I got the CleanDr Laser Lens Cleaner in a local BestBuy for around $18. After running the cleaner couple of times, everything works fine: DVDs and CDs. 🙂

I've read somewhere that it's not recomended to use these type of cleaners in the computer drives, but it worked for me.

Strange but true. Inserting a blu ray disk in to the dvd player and having the system reject the disk does make normal DVDs and CDs work after upgrading to Mountain Lion (10.8.3) , at least on my system. 2008 Macbook pro.
