I called 800-MYAPPLE this morning and was told that I could purchase OS X Lion and I would receive 2 emails: 1 confirming the order and a 2nd one with the redemption code to use in the Appstore.
I placed the order wth the rep and within seconds received the 1st (confirmation) email. An hour went by & I never received the 2nd.
I logged into my Apple ID account to check the status of the order, only to get a message saying I didn't have access to the order. (I have 2 Apple IDs: 1 that I've had for years in the form of username, the other in the form of username@email.com. The rep was supposed to use the former, but used the latter)
I logged into the other Apple ID account and it shows the order, but says it shows:
Available to ship: 1 - 3 business days
Delivers Nov 13 - Nov 15 via Standard Shipping
Everything about that threw me off. I called Apple again & through a supervisor was explained:
- this type of order (OS X Lion) was unusual (which I find hard to believe, but even if it was, it should be an automated process)
- they (Apple) were "winding down Lion sales" (which is just made up talk by the supervisor, as they'll sell it until 10.9 comes out)
- orders for Lion were processed manually by a team, which would take up to 3 business days, but shouldn't take until 11/15
- The order couldn't be canceled, even if I wanted to
I find it odd that a software purchase needs manually processing. Even more strange that the order would show as using "standard shipping," even it it was manually processed.
I guess I'll see in a few days.
