Is Lego Mindstorms NXT 2.0 Mountain Lion Compatible?

Is Lego Mindstorms NXT 2.0 software compatible with Mountain Lion?

My son saved money for a long time and finally last week had enought to buy NXT.

I'd like to upgrade my Lion to Mountain Lion but since this NXT is the most important thing in house at the moment I don't want to ruin the experience with uncompatible OS.

OS X Mountain Lion

Thank you but no joy.

I will wait for EV3.

Meanwhile, I now have a MacBook with Snow Leopard (OS X 7) and Mindstorms is very reliable on that computer. Still cannot access via bluetooth with required dongle but that is another issue which I anticiaote EV3 will solve as a WiFi version of EV3 brick will be available at an additional cost.

as easy to find as always...

but it still has the issues with Flash player. Here's hopeing for EV3...

Gordon.

Unfortunately, the files in this ISO are all dated June 21, 2012. Maybe they made the page "easy to find" because they were so proud of it.

My fear is that LEGO gets EV3 working on Mountain Lion just in time for Mavericks.

Hi, I have MacOSX with virtualbox running Windows 8 as a guest. I am doing this to be able to run RobotC. I am currently struggling to get the NXT available in Windows 8. I have set up a usb filter and I can see the nxt is captured by VirtualBox. However, I can't connect to the brick in Windows 8 in Mindstorms or RobotC. I can still see the NXT on the Mac side in LabVIEW. I am guessing that Mac needs to give it up to allow the Windows 8 guest to really use it. I saw in your comment that you have successfully done this. Any hints?

Thanks,

Aaron

Hi,

I have a similar set-up in order to get the Bluetooth running. I use Mountain Lion with Parallels and Win7. That works with Mindstorms AND an off-the-shelf inexpensive USB-Bluetooth device. I basically gave up on VirtualBox because of various hardware issues. Parallels works great, but needs some resources ... and some $. I upgraded to 8GB RAM. Now it runs rather smoothly. Maybe meanwhile VirtualBox has removed the issues I had, but now it is too late and too troublesome to change back. Parallels works with all kind of USB devices and hardware security keys that I had to use for work. Never a problem. It is an investment that pays back quickly.

Woohoo! I got it to work. I needed to install the VirtualBox extension (additional download from the same site) that enables the USB 2.0. Then, it also needs to be enabled in the USB device filter.

Getting the firmware to download from robotC was a pain. I bricked my nxt a few times before I was able to figure out that when robotC initiates the boot sequence the windows guest loses the device. You need to rechoose and and make the nxt available to the windows guest again.

EV3 software is available for download now. I installed it on my Mac mini with Mountain Lion. USB works but I haven't had any luck with Bluetooth. I can pair the NXT with my computer and when I refresh in the Hardware section of Mindstorms it has me select the Bluetooth device. Once I select it, it doesn't get added to the list of available bricks. I could be missing a step.
