Constant Kernel Panics on OS X Mountain Lion.

Hello,

I've been experiencing constant kernel panics since installing Mountain Lion.

The panics sometimes happen every couple hours to happening as soon a I boot up, thus leading me to restart and trapping me in a constant rebooting because of kernel panics.

Can anybody spot what is going wrong, based on the diagnostic that is provided to me?

Sarbanharble-

That is a very unusual panic:

panic(cpu 6 caller 0xffffff8006c43d8e): "a freed zone element has been modified in zone: HFS node"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-2050.18.24/osfmk/kern/zalloc.c:219

It occurred in routines called by:

BSD process name corresponding to current thread: revisiond

I think it may be related to memory allocation.

You have some non-Apple kernel extensions:

org.virtualbox.kext.VBoxNetAdp 4.2.8

org.virtualbox.kext.VBoxNetFlt 4.2.8

org.virtualbox.kext.VBoxUSB 4.2.8

org.virtualbox.kext.VBoxDrv 4.2.8

com.avatron.AVExFramebuffer 1.7

com.avatron.AVExVideo 1.7

If you want Apple to help you, they will set you on a path to a clean install (backup -- twice if possible, erase your Hard drive, then install fresh with no add-ons. Then if the problem occurs in a clean all-Apple system, they will dig in and work on it with you.

This could be caused by your thrid-party add-ons, or may be a corrupted Mac OS X install, or possibly a memory problem.

Mar 20, 2013 8:27 AM in response to carakita

carakita-

Yours is an ordinary page fault (invalid emeory access) in routines called by graphics drivers:

Kernel Extensions in backtrace:

com.apple.NVDAResman(8.1)[A26D2A3D-C06F-3A0F-BCFF-901A98C93C3D]@0xffffff7f9cf08 000->0xffffff7f9d215fff

This is NOT the same model or the same problem as the majority of posts here.

You have no non-Apple kernel extensions.

If you can find older or newer panics, you may be able to establish a trend that points to a particular routine, or if a non-Trend, that is a trend in itself and points to memory problems. Look in log files with the same name but with a digits at the end of the filename.

It is hard to rule out corrupted Mac OS X. It would be prudent to backup everything (twice, if possible) erase your Hard Drive and re-install the system from scratch. The guys at the Genius Bar can help you do that, but keep in mind you will need some external drives on which to store your stuff.

This is the last one I got on my MBP13

tropicalday-

You panic is an ordinary protection fault (access to unauthorized memory) but is very unusual.

It happened before Mac OS X was fully loaded. It did not indicate the name of the routines involved.

If you can boot to Safe Mode (hold down Shift at Startup) you should do so. It will spend five minutes attempting to use Disk Utility ( Repair Disk ) to repair the Boot drive, then come up with minimal extensions loaded, and demand that you log in, even if you normally auto-login.

If that does not work, the symptoms or error messages may be illuminating. Alternatively, you can use Command-R to get to the Recovery_HD, where you can run Disk Utility ( Repair Disk ) Manually.

Hi Grant, and hi guys....

i changed my RAM Kits specially for Mountain Lion and i got no Problems at all !!!

Thanks for your great help, grant !

Funny is, that i normally should use 1066 MHz RAM Kits, but i bought those Ram Kits and i was not able to start my mac... i only got 3 beeps on startup .... so i changed those 1066 MHz RAM Kits to 1333 MHz Kits and this worked like a charme!

I am happy again with my MacBookPro (late 2008) i got no Kernel Panics since those changes.....

Thanks again Grant!
Maybe this will help some of you - try changing your RAM Kits

PS: I bought my old RAM Kits at "DSP-Memory" (Only Apple Ram Kits available) but when i changed the RAM to the new one, i figured out, that my old RAM Kits (from DSP) was not build for Apple Computers! So this was my Problem...

laufgestalt-

To summarize for future Readers, you were seeing panics in your MacBook Pro from seemingly-random routines, each one different. You went through the exercise of removing non-Apple extensions, but the panics did not stop and no two were in the same routine. You tried extensive memory testing, but it did not pinpoint the problem.

Then you changed out your old memory for new, and the panics stopped.

(The panics you posted are back on page 17 of this topic.)

alexandrepaiva-

You have an ordinary memory protection error

panic(cpu 3 caller 0xffffff802c0b7e95): Kernel trap at 0xffffff802c0a70f6, type 13=general protection

This one occurred in routines called by:

Kernel Extensions in backtrace:

dependency: com.apple.security.SecureRemotePassword(1.0)

I expect the problem is your third-party so-called "security" software:

com.zeobit.kext.Firewall 2.3.2

com.protech.NoSleep 1.3.1

.

An ordinary protection error is a reference to a section of memory that is protected. When that happens from deep inside the system kernel, it causes a Kernel Panic (the kernel is unable to continue). Because this problem occurred in routines called by security modules, I blame Zeobit (maker of malware such as MacKeeper) for this problem.

An error that occurs inside only one program crashes only that program, often with a message program "unexpectedly quit".

I am getting extremely fed up with constant kernel panics, so I hope someone here can help. I have gotten at least six of them in the past several hours today alone and this has been going on for months, ever since upgrading to Mountain Lion.

I have already taken my laptop to the Genius bar. I had to leave it overnight for hardware testing and everything came out fine. I was told to back everything up and they would reinstall the OS because it had to be some kind of software problem. I did this. Two days after they returned my computer with the fresh OS, I was still getting kernel panics. I have done RAM tests on my own, on top of the ones done by the Genius bar, and nothing appears to be wrong.

I have gotten kernel panics in practically every program. At first I thought it didn't happen while it was playing games, but then it started happening while I was playing games. Then I thought it was when I had a web browser open, but then it would happen without a web browser open. There is no common program that is open whenever I have a kernel panic. I just always have them. Sometimes everything will be fine, and I will go afk for a few minutes, and I will come back to find there has been a kernel panic. I am praying that I don't get one while I'm trying to post this.

My laptop feels progressively more useless and to be honest this has really shaken my trust in Apple products. At this point I feel like I need to replace my laptop and I very much doubt it will be with another Mac. I have an iPhone and I am considering switching to a Droid when my contract allows for it. I am very bothered at the quality of Mountain Lion, considering I got kernel panics on a fresh install done by the Genius bar itself, and I am worried future versions of the OS are going to be just as bad or worse. I already went through nightmares with the iPhone 3 turning into a slow brick and went ahead an got an iPhone 4 just to stop having the problems. It seems like Apple's quality is really falling off for anything that isn't their newest product, and I don't like that once I have a product of theirs for about a year and a half it already stops working. This pains me because I like everything else about Apple, but if it's not reliable it's worthless.

Knowing me, though, I'm just extremely cranky at having a worthless laptop for months now, and if I can fix this I'll probably be back on the Apple bandwagon even though Apple won't have fixed it at all. @.@

I am using a mid-2010 15-inch MacBook Pro. Here is the about:

Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 256 MB

Software OS X 10.8.3 (12D78)

Here is my latest kernel panic:
