No Wake-on-LAN possible since updating to ML

This afternoon I tried this method:

1. delete all aliases on network drives (on my client iMac)

2. reconnect to the server (my MacMini) via finder

3. reconnect to the network drives

4. create new aliases

I'm not sure if it lasts forever, but this afternoon my MacMini wakes up, while there is any network traffic.

seems Your are right, it worked for about 15 minutes then the iMac went to sleep, 15 minutes later the MacMini did. Waking up the iMac caused a connection error to the network shares on the mini, that didn't wake up.

So the state is as it was, sorry!

Following in the steps for Fix #1 in this article seemed to instantly fix all my issues with this problem.

VNC, HTTP and Fileshare requests doesn't wake my Mac Mini. Funny enough, Plex requests (Plexapp.com) does.

I'm also finding that a handful of 3rd party apps are still able to wake my ML-running MBP up.

An old app called Wake on Lan works, but in a different way than it used to -- instead of waking the sleeping mac up entirely, it makes it wakeable by VNC and afp, and discoverable over bonjour. I haven't tested it yet to see whether the mac goes undiscoverable again after a few minutes, though.

thanks for the hint. I tried the fixes with the wired & wirless connection. Setting the MTU seemed to help to wake up the MacMini, but when it wents to sleep again while I'm connected to a share, the iMac freezes with the beachball of death until I wake up the mini manually.

You're right waking up works, but that does last until server or client mac went to sleep. The result is a frozen Mac....

Has anybody any answer after sending the bug report? I wonder if Apple is going to provide a fix if our discussion becomes too silent 😉.

I also have this problem with losing my connection between my Mac mini and Mac book pro when the machines go to sleep. What going on apple?

EVERYONE should make sure they have submitted a bug request. Apple will do nothing if it's here, and will react only if we ALL submit them.

I have a developer seed of 10.8.1 that I may put on my Mini (even though it's not my development/testing computer) and see if it provides any change.

Been trying to find a solution to waking Mountain Lion from sleep via wifi for a few days now, tried altering the library files with no real success, one minute everything is OK and the Mac will wake and then it disappears off the network again.

Spent 2 hours on the phone to senior support at apple in Ireland with no solution, he is testing it to see if there is a work around but it would appear as most people have suspected that this is a bug in Mountain Lion as it was working fine under lion, he did suggest to report the problem to Apple via the feedback page www.apple.com/feedback and hopefully there will be a fix. He also mentioned that there is an update coming through very shortly 10.8.1 which may address the issue but he was not 100% sure. The feeling is that the new power nap feature for certain newer macbooks and airs might be causing the problem. If I find anything else I will post it.
