Magic Mouse tracking poorly and losing Bluetooth connectivity since Mountain Lion upgrade

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion I have experienced frequent and inconsistant tracking from my Magic Mouse. It will work fine and then out of no where, and without any connection to a particular app or process (that I can identify) it will begin stop moving or move in a very jittery fashion. I'm also experiencing Bluetooth connection loss with the mouse from time to time out of nowhere. I cleaned the mouse and even went to so far as to replace it with another, brand new Magic Mouse and have seen the same problem.

I have also tried resetting PRAM and SMC.

Anyone else experiencing this or a similar issue? Have any suggestions of things to try?

After nearly a month of no issues using the 10.8.2 update combo, the issues have returned and I have not been able to resolve them. :-(

My Mighty Mouse also seems to be having problems with click and drag. It does not hold the click and releases halfway through the edit in FCPX making it nearly impossible to work. Same thing in finder when I am trying to move files, scroll window... very irritating. Spent 3 hours yesterday trying to resolve both.

Onyx did not fix the problem for me. However I watched my Console log and noted the following.

Magic Mouse click, computer detects input and connnects the mouse; log says:

[AppleMultitouchDevice::start] entered

I am able to use my mouse for 5-10 seconds, the Magic Mouse stops working; log says:

[AppleMultitouchDevice::willTerminate] entered

[AppleMultitouchDevice::stop] entered

This is not a Bluetooth hardware issue. It is a software bug/multi touch device software issue. Can anybody else watch their Console log to see what your log is saying?

I'm sorry to say that the "Restart in Safe Mode" fix didn't work. Or it did for a little while, but stopped working this morning.

As for the Console, I'm seeing a whole bunch of threads like this:

ReportCrash: LaunchServices/51232589: Unable to lookup coreservices session port f...

and

ReportCrash: failed looking up LS service ( scCreateSystemService returned MACH_P

There are about 50 of these entries over the last several minutes, and they do correpond with roughly the time my Magic Mouse became jerky and unresposive again.

Unfortunately I have no idea what it means or what to do about it.

I get extremely slow tracking speeds, as if the mouse cursor is moving through glue.

I have managed to recreate the issue though, as follows:

1. Mouse works perfectly fine.

2. Select a load of files, let's say 10Gb of photos.

3. Drag and copy them into a folder/USB drive/Network drive.

4. Wait a couple of seconds, then start using the mouse. It will move as if it's weighed down.

5. After the copy process stops, the mouse starts working fine again.

Anyone else had something similiar to this?

Any solutions, would be greatly appreciated as I've left the mouse in the drawer as it's of no use to me while not working correctly. Could work nicely as a paper weight though.

Change your wifi router setting from 12 to anything else... Magic Mouse seems to work on same channel 12 on a 2.4 Ghz wifi router. Took me a while to work out what had happened to my mouse after the Virgin Media guy changed my wifi channel to 12 AND he even said somethings wrong with your mouse after he did it...!!! I changed it back after he'd gone and now perfect tracking once more. (I even switched it back to 12 for a gigglle and watched my mouse trudge through mud and glue!!) Try it!

I decided to do a fresh install of Mac OS X 10.8 on a scondary hard drive and did not transfer any preferences, applications or settings. I have been able to connect my Magic Mouse and haven't had any issues. I am afraid to transfer my preferences, settings and cache in fear the bug is amung them. I will keep my origional disk and will transfer files as I need them. I am also reinstalling programs fresh too to avoid transferring any bugs that could be in the settings and preferences. Time will only tell to see if this is a viable solution.

I also have this exact same problem, and have tried multiple solutions with no fix. I seem to get the best results when my MBP is directly on top of my glass top desk. The problem is more obvious when I move the MBP away from the mouse, either by putting it in the henge dock that I have or simply putting it on a shelf of my desk.

I know this is a very low tech solution, but it's working for me. Maybe it can work for you as well.

Running MacOS X 10.5.8 and just bought Apple Magic Mouse. After installing Wireless mouse update it seems to work ok, but got serious keyboard slow down while typing text. Read this thread, downloaded OnyX tool, do a recent backup and clear system caches (all those chosed by default + Kernel cache). Crossed fingers and reboot. Problem gone. Keyboard start working fine and I checked it in game (where it really bothers me) - fine again.

So I think the problem is cached. Clean it.

Cheers, Peter.

I did a fresh install as well althought I only installed 10.7.5. The original OS my mac came with. So far no problems with the mouse on my display. I'm afraid to install mountain lion in fear that the problem will come back. I'm bringing over apps and data right now. I will see after this process if a problem occurs. Then I'll try for Mountain Lion.

Overall...So far so good.
