Has Mountain Lion ruined ical/reminders integration? I can't figure it out

fwiw I'm finding fantastical http://flexibits.com/fantastical to do the trick $20 US less than BusyCal, plus the Fantastical iPhone app is pretty sweet, although I like Pocket Informant best for my iPhone

Yes, also bought it, works fine, is cheaper than busyCal: But, does in no way replace the integration of events plus reminders on one screen: On ONE SCREEN, not a tiny window.

Unbelieveable why they spoiled that "all Your life at a glance"!

I really fear a general breakdown in Apple's ability (or willingness) to design and support world-class software to mesh tightly with its hardware. And the point of paying for the lovely hardware is a superior user experience. The famous ecosystem.

Instead, we get something that reeks of rank stupidity and managerial bungling at a number of levels. While the company sits on tens of billions in cash. Something about this picture is very, very wrong.

I agreee this is an impressive step backwards. As someone with lots of deadlines which I log on ICal, I like to see a list of what's upcoming. (I used to drag each deadline to the To-Do list on the earlier iCal, and presto! there it was at a glance.) Now, there's no way to see a single list of deadlines I'm facing.

I tried exporting my deadline.ics and then importing it to Reminders (inelegant and annoying as that might be), but Reminders apparently doesn't even import .ics files -- nothing shows up, even though I click through all the approrpirate drop-downs.

Any suggestions on how to compile a simple list of upcoming dates from a specific iCal calender? Without getting into the Wayback Machine and returning to a time when Apple understood and listened to its users. (And don't get me started on Time Zone Support.)

Add my voice. It used to "just work". Now it doesn't. I have pointed out the flaws before, but now here is a show stopper: certain alerts either don't work at all, or just pop up quickly and immediately disappear! This really hurts my workflow and I have to have a replacement for this tool now.

Here is a partial list of my Calendar annoyances:

1. Alerts cannot set variable snooze time. Only some built-in apparently "random" value is available. What good is that?
2. Alarms pull down list gets corrupted. This bug seems not as bad as when I first noticed it on Lion, but is still there.
3. Periodically events get duplicated, and they are nearly impossible to remove.

A related feature that I would dearly love (and seems might have been present long ago, perhaps in Leopard): the Dashboard widget can show the events for today, but cannot be used to look at events of any other day. Would be great to have this.

Apple - Mac OS X - Feedback

Hi all,

I've had mac for over a year now. But I'm still a newbie in terms of usage. I noticed today that iCal in the Applications folder had a round and cross over its icon. This was not the case before my upgrade to Mountain Lion.

I just wanted to confirm is this normal or is it some damage associated files that prevents it from opening up. I'm just not sure if this is the intention given the griping and nostalgia that many previous posters have written. As I'm new, I've not accustomed myself to using using reminders and calendar together, so I'm not as impacted as you guys who've become used to them being combined clearly are. However, they both sync separately using iCloud for me, so the Reminders list and the calendar entries on my iphone, ipad and mac are always up to date regardless of the location and connection to whichever wifi I may be at (or the 3G as the case may be). Am I missing something here?

You can drag and drop reminders into iCal!!!

This really is unbelievable. There have been so many inane changes to all the software...dumbing down Final Cut...removing something as staple as "save as" from iwork apps...safari's complete refusal to work with adobe flash (on the mac, not just mobile devices) and my recent (and obviously shared) realization that even reminders doesn't sync with calendar. I'm sorry. I know some people like Siri (my husband even thanks her when she does something!), but I personally find it irritating and somehow narcisstic.

What's going on? Is Apple completely abandoning the loyal users who sustained them before they became a glorified mobile device company?

I had hoped that Mountain Lion would enhance the Reminders / iCal relationship and allow for date specific links to appear in iCal dates, related to the more detailed Reminder list. With the addition of iCloud, it would have created a flawless system that could work across platforms and keep me on schedule, whether I was looking at my iPhone or MacBook Pro.

Unfortunately, that's not the case now. Although the prior merger of the Reminders and iCal was a wee bit stilted, I now have to "juggle" two apps to find out what's immediately due, what's important and what's coming up. And as with any attempt at juggling... things get dropped.

In almost every other aspect of my experience with Apple products, "It All Just Worked." Unfortunately, in this instance, this separation "Just Doesn't Work."

No problem here, if this is difficult for you I suggest BusyCal instead of Calendar

Unfortunately it also depends on the user, BusyCal is simpler and displays reminders on the calendar, if that is what you need, use it.
