Mountain Lion has random freezes. The mouse still works but the graphics go glitchy and i can't click on anything. I have to hold the power to restart.

Since installing mountain lion about a week ago on my late 2008 unibody 15" macbook pro, i'm experiencing random lockups where the graphics go glitchy and i can only move the mouse, but clicking does not work.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

I'm going to follow up on my post from a while ago. My basic thoughts are this: it's something to do with sleep. It only seems to occur after I've let my MBP go to sleep. When plugged in, I don't let it go to sleep. When on battery, I have it set at something like 10 minutes. But, I no longer close my lid and let it sleep. It's been quite a while now since I last experienced it. I had noticed that when I had experienced, I was usually recovering from closing the lid on it. Since I stopped doing that, no issues at all. To my recollection, every time this issue occurred, it was some period in time AFTER the MBP had come out of sleep mode (the time varies).

I had similar issue of sudden screen flashing followed by glitchy video . The only workaroud was to restart the macbook ( 5,1).

The root cause in my case was faulty RAM.

I had upgraded my macbook from 2 GB to 8 GB kit ( two 4 GB modules). I was able to boot up fine and the system recognised both the modules. However the machine use to freeze during heavy usage.

To test the RAM, I tried to start the macbook with just one of the modules installed. With one of the modules , I was not able to boot. With the other -- boot went fine... and there are no more freezes.

Hope this helps in some of the cases.

Thanks for everyone's help. I only just saw the advice to remove Soundflower. I upgraded to 10.8.2 on my MBP mid 2009 and I have had 4 days with no crashes and with many sleeps and no reboots. I didn't uninstall AirParrot or Soundflower and have the same versions as before. But I have been closing AirParrot when I wasn't using it so that may be helping.

Yes - good point. I think I've only ever had the crash while plugged into an external monitor via my Cablesson mini-displayPort to HDMI cable.

Another possible relevance - my machine was running very hot so I recently opened it up and cleaned out /a lot/ of dust stuck in the fans and vacuumed out the little heat sinks. This cooled everything down, and I didn't have any crashes until 10.8 but perhaps I knocked a cable or something.... (I think this is unlikely since the crashes happen when the machine is lying flat on my desk).

I have the same issues after updating to mountain lion. Just had the harddisk renewed couple of months ago so that cannot be the problem. System just starts freezing up, it starts with one random application. After that if I click on another application like enter a new URL in safari or opening another email in sparrow it will freeze too. Then I try to force close applications with the force quit window in finder, which makes finder crash. Only thing that works is completely depower machine and reboot. Freezes up about every two days. Thanks for looking at this, here's my log:
