Wifi/System Preferences Freezes After Waking From Sleep Mode.

Every since I installed Mountain Lion, I've had the issue of my MacBook Pro freezing up while it checks for Wifi after waking up from sleep mode. I have to constantly restart my computer. I'm wondering if Apple is aware of this happening on other computers and not just mine.

Also, my laptop is considerably slower since installing the OS update, especially when I turn on my computer.

I am not using Transmit. Have a 27" iMac, Late 2009 running 10.8.1.

After going into sleep mode as scheduled at 12 midnight, when the iMac wakes in the AM, sometimes everything is non-responsive, wifi gets an exclamation point. Have to do a hard reset (hold power button down until the iMac turns off and then press it again to turn it on.)

Any thing else to try to fix it?

SOLUTION for SSDs machines.

For those of you with 3RD party SSDs, this solution worked for me.

Update the firmware on your SSDs, after 10.8 something screwy happened to where the mac would not be able to communicate with the SSD, making it freeze and have to do a forced reboot. Manufacturers like OSZ and Sandisk, addressed the issue in seperate firmware updates. I just updated mine and after testing with sleeping for both 20mins and 8 hours, the freezing issue has stopped. Hopefully, this will help others as well.

Go to the manufacturers website for your SSD and update to its latest SSD firmware, reboot and it should all be better now. Goodluck!

I have the exact same problem. My system freezes when searching for Wi-fi connections. Even that I cannot restart. I press the turn off button and then turn on the computer. Even then my Mac attempts to find WIFI connections and freezes. Very frustrating. I do not use transmit. I would like that this is fixed as soon as possible. I would not like any other way around the issue because when you clean install, then you need to tweak for such changes over and over again. So Apple please update the system. Meanwhile this happens on a brand new Retina Macbook Pro.

I've been having the same issues with my 2011 MacBook Pro. Always keep software updated. Waited until just recently to finally install Mountain Lion - 3 weeks ago, maybe 4. Updated all software after that as well. Then started having these crazy symptoms like other refer to in this string of comments. Except I didn't notice any WiFi issues for me since I haven't taken the computer out of our home's wifi network since installing Mountain Lion. Would have to manually shut down the entire computer, using the power button, after multiple other things froze. Very frustrating. Never knew when it would begin that cycle of things freezing, but it was a nusisance. Noticed in System Preferences when I checked the Date and Time that certain things I had checked off, would be different when the system was in the midst of a freeze than it had been. So, after manually shutting down the computer and restarting I immediately opened System Preferences and unchecked the date and time to be shown in the Header Menu and checked the Voice to speak the time every 30 minutes. Then clicked Lock to prevent changes. It's been about 10 days now and have NOT had any further freezing up like before. Maybe changing Date and Time in the Header bar will help someone else, too. Or maybe I just got lucky. So far!!
