Mail suddenly stopped retrieving from my email provider...

Upgraded to Moutain Lion a week ago. So I do not know if this is a ML issue. But figured it was a place to start.

My email is hosted through Network Solutions and has performed flawlessly for 7 years.

Yesterday - Apple Mail 6.0 stopped receiving emails. I would get intermittant offline signals - would open the Connection Doctor and it would be red/off/or green.

I double checked my Network Solutions account and saw the unreceived emails sitting there. So I haven't lost any.

Apple Mail now shows green lights "connected to tthe internet".

But I am not getting any test emails I send to myself or have friends send to me. Meaning - they are not downloading to my Apple email client. They are still sitting at Network Solutions.

My cable provider - who has also worked flawlessly for the two years I have had them (I work from home) is Charter Internet. I don;t know what, if any, effect they may have on things. Right now just can;t seem to get email to talk to email provider.

Abd the ONLY thing that has changed at all is the OS. So I figured I'd start there.

Any help is appreciated.

It's apparent - you HAVE to call Network Solutions for them to fix it.

Or possibly submit a help ticket.

I finally sat on hold for another 45 minutes this morning (almost 3 hours total with talking to people a total of probably 1.5 minutes), got through to someone and it took less then 2 minutes to fix

They admitted it was a server problem. However - seemingly only effecting Apple Mail, so they probably couldn't do a blanket fix (I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt).

While I hope the refresh fix some have referred to helps them permanently, my experience has been different, and recurring. Running 10.6.8, and experiencing the "server not responding" and similar messages on an iMac, iPhone and Macbook Pro.

From my investigations it stems from NS being self-certified (not using Verisign, I believe, or others), and Mail refusing to recognize their certificate. When it doesn't accept their cert, it says it cannot connect, etc.

Temporary fixes have included restarts/complete power-downs (iPhone), deleting the account, clearing and resetting the password, etc. They have all worked at one time or another, and only deleting/reinstalling the account has worked every time.

Regardless, the problem has eventually cropped up again. Given the poor NS support, and that it's not orginating with Mail, Apple cannot help. Without moving email service to someone else, it appears we're doomed to more of the same.
