Passwords not saving in safari

Since downloading Mountain Lion, Safari won't ask me to save passwords anymore. I have tried the settings in Safari and the Keychain access. I'm just confused! The saving passwords option is a life saver/time saver! Any advice?

It wasn't working for me until I went to Safari/Preferences and the Autofill Tab. The user names and passwords options was not checked. Once this was selected, I went back to various websites and started entering my user name/password. Safari started asking if I would like to save the passwords for the sites. I have since gone back and tested this out ...checking and unchecking User names & passwords under the Autofill webforms section.

Worked for me!

I've had the same problem after Safari 6.0 was installed.
I've tried all possibilities mentioned here and on other sites (Autofill-enabling, Autofill-button, KeyChain repair, Store Username and Passwords... everything), but nothing worked.
Then I used the AutoComplete 1.0-extension, as RedGiminiPA, was the only thing that worked. I thought I had lost all passwords or so, but instantly after installing this extension, Safari 6 behaved as Safara 5 was doing, auto-filling in all details.
Thanks RedGeminiPA

Having followed all listed advice, including the installation of the extension recommended by RedGeminiPA, I still have my passwords regularly not saved. It works just fine with Safari 5 and Chrome, but still no go for Safari. What's especially annoying is that it not only forces me to enter the password, but it asks me if I'd like to save the new password. Every time. So Safari not only doen't remember, but forces an extra keystroke. Every time. And since I have to log into my university's learning suite multiple times every day to update my students' attendance, it's a frequent frustration.

It seems that the answer, for me at least, is to switch to Chrome until the next Safari update and hope the problem gets fixed then.

1. You are amazingly fast. You are a support ninja. Well done RedGeminiPA.

2. Alas, while Keychain First Aid did find and repair one problem, the issue still persists.

I checked the source at the most frequently troublesome site, and it has "autocomplete=true" as an attribute. And still fails. Even daw.apple.com (this very site where we are now) doesn't save the password, and every time tells me that the password I have typed is different from what is saved.

Under preferences, when I check the "Show passwords" box and enter my computer password at the prompt, the passwords still show up as black dots.

In the big picture, this is a minor annoyance. Chrome is a valid alternative for now, and that's what I'm going to do. Sure, it isn't my first choice, but many folks seem to like it just fine.

Wow, thanks for the compliment! 😊

I think I remember seeing something about this one other time a while back.

Still, keep that little extension installed. Once we get this little bug squashed, you'll really appreciate that little extension.

Under Keychain First Aid (Preferences>First Aid tab), are these boxes checked?

User uploaded file

Do you have more than one keychain?

User uploaded file

I created a new keychain, named "redgeminipa" as seen above. That's the only one that shouldn't be there. If you have more than one keychain, right-click (control click) on the keychain you want to use, then select the make default option.

Perhaps someone can help me with this.

Having had the same problem (on both Chrome AND Safari), I found this thread. I tried the Keychain First Aid approach, but a "Verify" and "Repair" attempt yielded the following:

Repair started

Checking keychain configuration for Mark (user ID=501)

Home directory is /Users/Mark

Checked login keychain

User differs on ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain, should be 501, owner is 0

Permissions incorrect on ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain, should be -rw-r--r-T , they are -rw-rw-r-T

Owner not corrected on ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain, reason: The operation couldn’t be completed. Permission denied

Permissions not corrected on ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain, reason: The operation couldn’t be completed. Operation not permitted

My question is, HOW do I fix this? How do I change the information in ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain?

Thanks!
