Restore desktop with back-up data

I used Carbon Copy Cloner to back-up my files from the 10.4.11 awhile before the HD crashed. I had it replaced & it should be a clean copy of the OS plus a few files they could save. What I want to do is just take everything I back-up & put it on the new HD so I have the same capabilities as before (for instance I can't run Skype right now but all the accounts should be in the back-up). Shouldn't I be able to simple connect the back-up and drag whatever I want to the desktop or is that not going to restore things? Appreciate anything for a better understanding. Thanks

No.

Presumably you made a bootable clone using CCC? Use CCC to clone ot back to the new HD, but make sure that the HD has first been formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

OK, I think I found the OS 9.1 disk. There are actully 2, one for install and the other for restore. I also have two disks for OS 10.4.2, Disc 2 says it includes OS 9.2. Which do I use? Do I just put in the 2 disks & it will do the rest? Once it's installed, do I then restore CCC to the HD? Will I lose everything currently on my HD when I install the OS system or do I have to trash the disk image I previously restored from CCC? I hope this makes more sense & thanks.

I think I have it. The OS 9 is working but a couple things; I can't delete a .exe file it says is locked, can't open it either. Also, when I go to my hotmail account, I get a screen that says safari can't identify the website. WHen I continue it says to upgrade my web browser but if I click on one, it just takes me to a screen that talks about it but gives no option to upgrade. When I click "continue to hotmail" it takes me to my account & shows new messages but I can't open any messages or change anything, even going to any folder. Any ideas?
