How do I remove my credit card information from my iPad?

I purchased an app not too long ago. Everything went well. I have recently tried to install an app but I am unable. A message pops up stating that I have to log into my account due to payment information changes. It tells me my security code for my credit card is incorrect. I typed it in (the same code that I had used before, of course) and it still says it is incorrect. I no longer wish to have my credit card information on my account. There is no money on the credit card right now. Am I being charged? The purchase was a one time thing. It was a game. I have since deleted the app. Someone, help. I am now uncomfortable with this situation and would rather not deal with being on hold or having to explain again what has happened. Thank you.

You are trying to remove it just by logging into the account, not when trying to download something : Change or remove your Apple ID payment information - Apple Support ?

You won't get the 'none' option if you are a family organiser in family sharing or owe iTunes money : Why can’t I select None when I edit my Apple ID payment information? - Apple Support
