iPhone 3g doesn't show up in find my iPhone

I currently have 3 devices set up on mobile me account (iPhone 4 and two ipads). I just re-activated my old iPhone 3g. I restored the phone to factory settings and installed the latest OS (that's available for that phone). The phone is fully functional (ie, make/receive calls, use 3g internet, etc).

Under the mail, contacts, I added my MobileMe account and enabled Find My iPhone. However, when I login to find my iPhone, it only finds my original 3 devices. I've tried disabling, then re-enabling it. I've tried deleting the account, then adding it back. All to no avail.

Any ideas what the problem is, or what else I can do to try to fix it?

I have an iPhone 4 with IOS6 on it.

I do have iCloud set up for Find My Phone and for Calendars. I have the Calendar shared on my iPhone 4 (IOS6), iPod Touch 2ndGen (IOS 4.2.1), iMac (10.6.8), Mac Mini (10.7.5), MacBook (10.6.8).

I have deleted the MobleMe mail account on the Touch and re-created it, but Find My Phone still does not locate the touch.

I do have the Find My Phone app on the Touch and it has been there since day one.

Any time I try to actually use the Find My Phone feature from any of my devices or Macs via iCloud, the iPod Touch does show up as a device, but Find My Phone says the Touch is "Offline" and does not locate it.

Find My Phone used to locate the Touch, but stopped working this summer.

My guess is that it stopped working when MobileMe got shut down.

I have tried, I too used to be able to find an iPhone 3G, however I have reset and cleared the phone as I am giving it to someone and now I cannot load the version of Find my iPhone APP as it has been updated to have a minimum of iOS 5. So probably you are all right depending on when you tried to instal FMiP. If you installed it a long time ago you are ok. If you try today it will not work with an iPhone 3G.
