Notes Disappearing!!

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion I have had a recurring problem with Notes disappearing. I use Notes on both my iPhone and my Mac (Google Apps, not iCould) for work. Many of my (new) notes disappear from both devices within a couple days of me writing them.

In my Yahoo Mail, mine show up in a folder called "Notes". Not sure it will be there for you in your email account, and it might appear in my mail folder because of some configuration I did a long time ago. Good luck! I just can't believe that Apple doesn't fix this. Amazing. In Software Quality Assurance parlance, this kind of defect is considered a "showstopper" because it deals with the loss of a user's data. Does Apple not care or just not paying attention?

christopher t,

I fully agree with you. I do not defend Apple here, but have you seen and used YAHOO MAIL on a desktop computer lately since their comprehensive 'DOWNGRADE' months ago? It is GROSSLY DEFICIENT from a user interface perspective and has hardly, read infinitesimally, improved since its introduction. The NEW YAHOO MAIL system is SERIOUSLY SERIOUSLY CLUNKY and DEVOID OF ITS ORIGINAL SOPHISTICATION from top to bottom, from front to back and from left to right. The whole ****** thing. The list of issues is ABSOLUTELY ENORMOUS.

I cannot believe that a MATURE CORPORATION such as YAHOO can perform as that of an IMATURE FOOL OF A CORPORATION. I have never been so disgusted with a company delivering software in any field, neither personal nor corporate. As an ex IT person, please be advised that this is saying something

YAHOO HEADS SHOULD ROLL.

Ha ha ha... JamesUUESS, yes, I suppose that is true about Yahoo Mail. Ha ha... I didn't expect a rant on Yahoo Mail, but OK, I guess they deserve it. Anyway, my posting only refers to the fact that I've got notes recorded on my phone that mysteriously disappear, but are at least saved in my Yahoo Mail account. At least they are not gone for good if you've done some configuration with that account to have them save.

Best to you, mate!

Hear hear ffromlondon,

That's my sentiment on the use of Yahoo Mail as well. If it wasn't for the iOS mail interface I would have sent Yahoo packing months ago. By the way, on rare ocassions a rant is what is required I reckon, especially directed at the likes of Yahoo.

What we are seeing with Apple on this particular thread subject discussion is truly a strange aberration, a most unusual failure on Apple's part. Of course it could be some odd design feature, but nobody will know unless Apple spill the beans on this.

Cheers

I am not IT savvy. I propose a simpler solution: I thought I'd lost my notes, too. I also have an iPad mini, and noticed the notes app icon and clicked on it. What was more obvious on the iPad was that there are different accounts; in other words, it had different sets of notes saved under different email accounts. My missing notes were saved under my icloud account, although I didn't consciously ever put the notes under any separate account. They were visible when I clicked "All Notes," too. It turns out that the phone had a different account set as the default. I changed the default on the iPhone, and there they were. I took screen shots so the notes are saved in my photos, too. This was a lot easier than checking through a lot of backups. I hope that helps. I will post this on a couple of threads I see in Apple communities. I see it's a pretty common problem.

Many of us have notes that disappear in the same account. For example, mine disappears periodically back to September of last year. If I had new notes, eventually they disappear, but leaves notes older than September untouched. I have two fairly new notes on there now and don't trust that they will stay there very long. They'll disappear soon, probably. Maybe not though, if the new iOS7 has fixed the issue. Fingers crossed.

Make sure you log into your email account using the desktop (non-mobile) view, find your notes folder, that was created for you, move all your lost notes you need because you will probably lose them after you unsync...unpair? Whatever.

The fix is to go to your email settings on your phone and deselect the option to pair your notes. You have options to pair mail, contacts, calendars and notes. Make sure you turn the notes off.

Some of my notes have disappeared on my MacBook Pro. My webmail is Cox and there is no folder for Notes there. I checked my iPhone 5 although I don't purposely sync Notes to it and some where there but not all. I went into Time Machine but did not know where to look for Notes and the Notes.app is grayed out. I'd appreciate any other suggestions. I really would like to have that info back.
