App Store Updates (but only Updates) cannot connect to iTunes Store

Apple System being updated today.

I think I finally resolved my problem be deleting several apps that wouldn't update and using iTunes on my desktop Mac to update the others.

I changed the date and the first time it didn't work, but the second time, I closed settings in the multi-tasking bar, then I went back into the app store and it told me to check my date and time settings, which I did, changed them back, then when I went back in to the app store, the updates were there. After messing with this for HOURS, your advice about moving the date ahead a LOT worked. I set it to 2026. Then opened the App Store and quickly clicked on something other than the Updates section. Then clicked updates and got the security error. Rest calendar to auto and proceeded. It worked.

My problem looked like it stemmed from an app on a shared computer. My daughter shared an app purchased from her iPod with my wife. Unfortunately, an update was needed and the credentials that came up were for my daughter's account. This is why it could not connect when it got to that app. Different credentials. So, I deleted the app from the iPod and all is right once again.

For those who still didn't find a way to fix this problem, i just found on a site that if u change your DNS to 8.8.8.8 ( it is a google official DNS ) the problem is fixed. And indeed worked for me.

To change your DNS, just go on Settings > Wifi > Press on blue arrow of the wifi and put 8.8.8.8 on DNS field.

Hooray....thanks for the suggestion of changing the date way ahead (2036).....and reminding us to double-click the home button to quit the APP STORE app before changing the date. I finally got the security message and now all is well with updates. Thanks again!

Amazing, makes no sense whatsoever, but it worked, after I tried several other forum remedies! :-)

I had this issue after starting my iPhone 4 after 6 months of not using it. Changing the date forward one year, getting the error and then back again solved the problem.

Updated to IOS 6 today, that fixed it, all done.

Didn't have this problem before and got it after upgrading to iOS 6. But your "change date" thing still worked for me! Thank you very much! (Please note that for iOS 6 I did not receive any error on the security etc, just the usual 'could not connect to iTunes store')

If you're trying to update your apps and you get the message Cannot Connect to the iTunes store (even though you can, when you want to buy something), plug your iPod into your computer. On your iTunes page, top left column, click on Apps. There should be a number next to it indicating the number of apps you have that need updating (or maybe it's just the number you have, not sure). Anyway, click on that and a page will come up showing all of them. Next to each will be a Get Update button. You can click them individually or go to the top right of the page and click on Download All Free Updates. Keep your iPod plugged in while it does this.
