App Store Updates (but only Updates) cannot connect to iTunes Store

The App Store icon on my homescreen shows I have 6 updates waiting to download.

When I go to App Store > Updates it says "Cannot connect to iTunes Store".

I can browse online with Safari so have internet connectivity. Every other tab in the App Store (e.g. Top 25) connects and I can download new apps. I can also access the iTunes store by using the iTunes icon - I can view and download anything from iTunes. The ipod touch can therefore connect to the iTunes Store, but for some reason the App Store Updater cannot.

I'm using OS 5.1.1, have searched the forums, shutdown and restarted the ipod, checked the DNS, logged out and in of my iTunes account, used different wi-fi networks, but no progress. Any tips would be massively appreciated !

Well, I would just try to mess around with all the remedies that there are such as: restarting your iPhone, going to the date and just setting the year to 2030 and changing the day and time forward too. Just try doing it a couple times but changing it up a bit every time. I would also just say wait it out a bit because it sounds like it's not a normal problem with a lot of iPhone. But after experimenting, let me know how it goes. I'd like to know what happens.

However, I waited a couple of hours and things have changed for the better. I suspect now it's something on Apple's side because I was having all sorts of other problems with my Apple ID on my iPod but not on my Mac earlier today that have gone away without any intervention on my part. For example, earlier today if I tapped Updates and then tapped Purchased I got an error message. Now, it works fine. Also, I can download new apps which I couldn't do earlier today.

A few years ago I also had a similar problem that also cleared itself after a day or today. The consensus then was it was some sort of issue on Apple's side. So, I suspect updates will work next. Either way, I will follow-up.

Well, everything went back to normal on Tuesday (the 4th) without any intervention on my part.😕 I can update apps on my iPod Touch again. Also, all the other things related to my Apple ID that didn't work over weekend (e.g., checking past purchases) work fine. I wish I had a solution for those of you still having this problem. 😟 For me it looks like it was just a temporary glitch over the long weekend.

Thank you Schan20

I tried everything, your advice is the only one that works:

Settings > General > Date and Time > Change Date to 2 years from now > go back to App Store > Notification will show "This iPod touch hasn't been backed up in 104 weeks. Backups happen when this iPod is plugged in, locked, and connected to Wifi" > go back and change Date and Time to today > it should work now

if not, try these (didn't work for me, but you might want to give it a shot)

1) Settings > General > Restrictions > Enable Restrictions > (wait a few seconds) > Disable restrictions

2)Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings and restart device
3) Settings > Wifi > Press on blue arrow of the wifi you want to use > Forget this network > Restart device
4) Uninstall and reinstall iBooks
5) Settings > General > Date and Time > turn off "Set Automatically" / Verify that time zones and time are correct, if not adjust

6) reset ipod
