Software update asks if I want to download 10.8 again?

Okay, so I open Softawre Update, and I see two entries in the Updates tab: Software Update (7MB to get 10.8.1) Restart Required and OS X Mountain Lion version 10.8.1. I hit Update All and a pop up askes me if I want to download Mountain LIon and it says (twice) in that popup OS X 10.8 is already installed on your computer. Are you sure you want to download it? So I hit continue. It downloaded Softawre Update, not 10.8, and didn't restart. Not sure what's going on? This new style of updating system software is weird, anyone else have this issue?

Oh, I let it finish the download to clear the red "1" on the App Store icon. It launched the install pack.

"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of an installer, must be in want of a start button."

Oh, and the red "1" is back. Apparently the only way to clear it is consume/zip/delete the install pack.

That's bad. Apple really needs to not be so ... reactive... to an install pack sitting out on a backup drive somewhere. This is an annoyance worthy of Windows.

Edit: "hide purchase" did not make the red 1 go away. I hope it doesn't interfere with updating OS X.
