iPhoto crashes when accessing Preferences

I am running iPhoto '08 version 7.1.5 (378) on a MacBook Pro running Lion 10.7.4.

I want to change some settings in Preferences. Every time I try to open Preferences the application crashes (hangs). All I see is the spinning beach ball that never stops spinning and never goes away. The only way to get out of this is to Force Quit iPhoto. When I open Force Quit is see iPhoto (not responding)

I have quit all running programs, and I have restarted the computer. I have plenty of RAM.

How can I fix this?

If I can't fix this, how do I remove and reinstall iPhoto?

I had this problem today, for the first time (iPhoto 8.1.2, OS X 10.7.5 on a 2007 MacBook). I could open iPhoto's Preferences pane, but clicking within it left iPhoto hung, and Force Quit was required. Rather than change the iCloud settings, I turned WiFi off, restarted iPhoto, and preferences worked! Thank you for that suggestion.

That's the good news. The bad news is that, with WiFi again enabled, clicking anything in the Preference pane still causes iPhoto to hang; one success does not fix the problem permanently. So, if you're experiencing the Preferences hang, you may need to turn off WiFi (or iCloud/MobileMe) any time you need to interrogate or change iPhoto's preferences.

Once you sign off from Mobileme you are screwed because you lose your Mobileme remaining features (syncing calendars and contacts, for example) forever. And no chance to use iCloud. I just did it and my three Macs with 10.6 are no to able to log in Mobileme anymore and new I have to get a workaround.

Thank you, Apple. šŸ˜

Just to let people know.

As long you remain logged in MobileMe and dont make the move in your old 10.6.8 install, your contacts and calendars keep natively synching with iOs devices and Macs with iCloud. I know it. It was my case in three Macs at home with 10.6.8. Until a couple days when I managed to follow this article.

And NO, Macs under 10.6.8 cannot use iCloud.

Was MobileMe closed? Thanks for the news. I“m certainly impressed and puzzled over this novelty.

I“m just warning other people in my situation. That“s all. If you log off MobileMe to enter iPhoto preferences, it“s gone forever , want or not. Any Mac you had with 10.6.8. Not a big deal but it“s something I“d preferred to know.
