My location cannot be determined under cellular and it works fine over wifi network. Plz help me.

I bought a used iphone 4s a month ago. It used to work fine for 2 weeks. And slowly while checking maps over cellular network my location cudnt b determined. It showed location sometimes. But after 3-4 days location was never determined. It works perfectly over wifi. Am using it in vodafone network. Somebody please help me. Is dis a harware or softWare issue? Sorry if i wrote something wrong , its my first time here.

I'm not quite sure if the GPS radio in the iPhone is a true GPS module. Most cell phones and smartphones use triangulation of cell towers to determine your location within 30 meters. Working off of EDGE or 2G networks is going to limit the ability to be able to triangulate your position, especially when you are indoors due to the cellular connection being below 3G. Anything below 3G is going to be too weak indoors for GPS. Hence why you cant get location inside your house. Outside, you won't have obstructions to block any cellular towers.

but why was it all okay before? i used the sam sim card and over the same 2g netwrk and the same iphone 4s. only thing that has changed is i updated to ios 5.1.1. but if its a bug it should be cleared by a complete restore rite? i did that too.

This could be something that is beyond my expertise. I would contact Apple since it may have been an update to the radios for iOS 5.1.1. I'm not really sure though. Have you tried rolling back to the previous version of iOS or restored from a previous back up to the new update?

Fynally my iphone 4s is showing my location everywhere as soon as i updated it to ios 6. thank god it wasn't a hardware issue. But unfortunately since am in India the new maps are not good enough like the google maps. Now i have to buy a third party app for navigation purposes. How sad that we are not given any importance. 😟

Supported countries for Maps should expand over the next year. Its really new so I almost count this as a beta app like Siri. Hopefully Google releases their own dedicated maps app for iOS.
