Logitech c270 webcam and OS X

I recently bought a Logitech c270 webcam with the understanding that it would work with my iMac. However the webcam does not seem to be recognised by my iMac.

When I connect the webcam it is not switching on, no green light on the webcam or anything to indicate any activity at all.

I read on the Logitech site that all the software needed was already in OS X. Am I missing something?

Any help most appreciated.

I guess Logitech and Apple are finally playing nice together because my Logitech c270 installed on a mac mini with mavericks 10.9 got detected immediately by Skype and worked fine with zero fussing and no additional software needed, even though the package text said nothing about Mac compatibility, which had me worried. I did plug the camera into a port before opening Skype.

I agree with this. I'm running OSX 10.11.4 (actually a Beta version) I've just bought a C270. You don't need any new software. Plug it in to the USB port and then open Skype.

Go to preferences and then Audio/Visual. Select Microphone and choose Unknown USB Audio Device. Go to Camera (still in Audio/Visual) select USB Camera.

Thats it! Excellent.....makes me look almost human!
