When spilled water on MacBook Pro keyboard?

So let me get this clear - the Apple extended warranty does not cover accidental damage - like a water spill?

Correct, it is not insurance against accidental damage, rather it is a warranty.

The Apple warranty extended or otherwise (year one) does not cover accidental damage period. It is a warranty for product defects not consumer misuse.

For that matter policies that some folks here have been touting that covers water spillage may indeed not cover that if incurred by consumer misuse.

I have the same problem. On 01/03 my son spilled water on part of the screen and part of the keyboard. I turned off and then turned on, the mac is starting normally, the lights of the keyboard are working but the keyboard is not working. I dont know what to do??? Please help

It's too late to do anything now, take it to an Apple Store for diagnosis, be prepared to replace it.

"Happy" story. My daughter got a liquid spill on her MBP. She brought it to an Apple Store where they told her the liquid spill was not covered by her Applecare. She brought it back home, we sent it to Apple Repair (called the support line and they sent a box); they informed us it would cost about $774 (plus tax) to replace logic board, and 'make the computer better than new." The rep recommended I call Homeowner's Insurance (Amica), and since we had a computer/electronics clause for a nominal year charge, indeed the computer was covered for repairs or replacement, whichever was less (we were covered up to $4K) with a $50 deductible. The computer IS better than new now. Buy that extra insurance - either homeowner's or renter's. The ins rep told me our smartphones, iPads, iPods, laptops and desktops, etc. were all covered. "Even if you dropped your phone in the toilet."

I spilled on my brand new mac book air :( My renters insurance does NOT cover damage from spills or drops! They only cover theft & fire! They don't even offer additional coverage for drops or spills!

I checked online for any ideas/suggestions. One forum suggested checking to see if the credit card I used for the purchase offered any coverage. Same thing--they cover theft & fire Only!

So I'm paying $755 for Apple to perform their "spill repair".

Needless to say, I am definitely in the market for a new renters insurance company--one who will cover all of my devices in case of another spill or damage from being dropped.

I will look into Amica, for when i get my laptop back from Apple.

Hey I had spilled water on my MacBook Pro last night, and upon realizing that water had spilled on my MacBook Pro I immediately flipped it upside down in the hopes that the water would not get into the keyboard, but it was too late, the water had got into my MacBook Pro and my MacBook went crazy the screen started to frizzle and this loud static noise was screeching, I thought that basically my laptop was done. I powered it off and my friend told me to use rice to soak up the water. So I listened to him and got a bag and placed the rice into the bag and placed my laptop upside onto the rice with the back cover my laptop removed for ventilation purposes. I was skeptical at first because my friend had advised me not to power my laptop back on for a couple of days and I had just recently purchased it from a little over a month ago so I was basically devastated. So after a few hours of pondering how I would replace it if it did not turn back on or how much would it cost to get the motherboard replaced, I decided to go against my friends advicing of letting it sit for a few days and I borrowed my other friends' blowdryer to hopefully speed up the process of drying up the water. After attempting to dry my MacBook Pro with the blow dryer, I then proceeded to power it back on, at first it took longer than expected but then viola!! my MacBook had came back on with all of my windows and programs still up before I spilled the water onto the laptop, I dont know if im lucky or not, but I decided to give my testimony concerning this issue. If it matters at all I own the 13 inch MacBook Pro 2012 model (*Not the retina display one). And also I believed that the fact that I acted promptly may also be a reason as to why that MacBook came back to life.

Water is inside the system. So is rice dust. And you applied direct heat to components that expect fans to take the heat away.

You need to get the system evaluated ASAP. There is verly likely damage that will show up soon.

Hey guys; I had my first ever spill onto my 13' MBP last night. I turned it over to get the liquid off the keyboard immediately. It powered its self down which I suspect is a very bad sign. I did not have it plugged in at the time. I have left it powered off and will continue to leave it that way for at least another 24 hours.

Here is my question, I set up a Genius bar appointment but I am not sure there is any point to having that. I know it won't be covered under warrantee but there is no warrantee left anyway. Is there anything they are going to do other than tell me “***** for you”?

Well, seems like you have two choices. Take it to the Genius Bar to find out specifically what damage was done, and what would need to be done to fix it, or wonder whether you have damaged it, and whether or not if you should take the very risky chance of plugging it into a power source.

I know which one I would pick (hint: it would not involve possible fire or electrocution)....

So you're saying they will do more than say though luck, or were you just looking to insult someone's intelligence? I ask only because I hate to waste time, theirs or mine.

Gail has not insulted me, which is a good mark of patience.

You know you have no warranty, and you at least suspect it cannnot be simply dried out.

She is simply confirming your two choices: use it and risk sparks or have it diagnosed.

I only like sparks at July 4th fireworks, myself.
