Really bizarre. Hearing some people suggest that it's a problem on Apple's end is discouraging, as it suggests anything else I try may automatically fail. Yet if I can use the App Store from another user account, that suggests there has to be something lurking in my main account's Library (probably) that's causing the problem...

After running around in circles trying to get this resolved for me I finally found a (fairly easy) solution - the key point here is that the AppStore works just fine form another user account on the same computer (using the same AppleID) so it has to be something in ~/Library rather than /Library (thus ruling out the NetworkInterfaces.plist fix - which I tried and which didn't work for me).

Here is a step-by-step of what worked for me:

  1. Create a new user account - let's name it "Test" - I did not make this an administrator account
  2. Log into that new user account (skipping the AppleID/iCloud screen)
  3. Select "Software Update…" from the Apple menu - you will be asked to enter an administrator name and password in or to check for system updates - just provide your normal (admin-enabled) user name and password
  4. If you have any updates available, click "Update All" and log into the AppStore with your normal AppleID/password (this should work since you are in a new user account)
(If you don't have any updates available, I assume that you can also log in using the menu item in the Store menu of the AppStore application though I have not tried that)
  5. As soon as the download starts, you can quite the AppStore application
  6. Log out of your test account and back into your normal account
  7. Open /Applications/Utilies/Terminal
  8. Type the following command:
    sudo cp /Users/test/Library/Cookies/com.apple.appstore.plist Library/Cookies/
  9. Open the AppStore again and you should be able to log back in

What does this do? It seems that the com.apple.appstore.plist file in your normal user account has become corrupted - we use a new account and create a new one (which is interchangebale since we use the same AppleID) and move that one back to the main account with the corrupt file.

I had the same issue. I had also previously synced my wife's apple id with my iMac and could not sync with mine for 90 days. Here is what I did prior to getting it to finally work. I signed into the app store with a different apple id but did not finish all the steps to associate that id to iTunes. I updated my cc info then I signed into the app store again and it worked. I hope this helps.

OMG! I feel like crying right now!!!

I am not able to log in to my App Store since last year....I spent so many hours trying to fix it over and over again. I've tried many options from different discussions or threads but it just messed up my iMac more.

Today i tried again by deleting the "NetworkInterfaces.plist" from Preference and emptying my Trash then restart computer. Log in to App Store again and BOOM! I am in!

Thank you so much!

I forgot to mention that I have also attempted to Log into a different user name on my computer, and that also did not work. I also submitted a Customer Service ticket via e-mail and got a response, this is what I was told:

You may need to reset your browser cache, such as history, cookies, and temporary internet files, along with reseting the iTunes' application cache. The iTunes cache can be reset by following these steps:

1) Open iTunes

2) At the top menu, click File > Preferences (iTunes > Preferences on a Mac)

3) In the Preference menu, click the Advanced tab

4) In the Advanced menu, you should see a button that says "Reset Cache". Please click this button.

After clearing all caches, you'll need to check your internet browser settings, and be sure that any settings titled "Automatically detect settings" are turned off (or the option not selected). Once that is done, you can try again and you should be good.

It also did not work.

None of the stuff mentioned above were able to resolve my problems. I was however able to fix the problem on my networked iMacs, let me explain:

I have 20 fancy iMacs in a computer lab on an Active Directory domain and upgraded them to Mavericks. Immediately after the upgrade while logged in as root we were no longer able to login to the App Store with any valid Apple ID's. This made it impossible to update installed applications.

We called apple who told us (and this is serious folks) "try unplugging the computers to remove the excess electrical charge from the systems". Well after that didn't work and after no help from the technical support team I discovered that the problem with the App Store in our case was related to the root account. I logged off the root account and logged in as a normal domain user and had no problem getting into the App Store to do the updates.

I still don't know why it won't work for the root account but really don't care because I have a work around.

I just wanted to pass this tidbit along because this was a really annoying problem.

My problem turned out to be network related. I added a wireless airport card to my Mac Pro and disabled the onboard ethernet that was named "en0" (computer not near to a port). This caused my wireless card to be renamed to "en0". Why is this a problem? Apparently, the system checks that the onboard ethernet is working properly before allowing acces to the App Store. If onboard ethernet is not working, it'll display that cryptic message. To fix this:

  1. Click on Apple menu and choose "System Preferences..."
  2. If the wireless (or some other piece of network hardware other than onboard is name "Ethernet (en0)", delete it.
  3. Make sure the onboard gets renamed to "Ethernet (en0)". If it was somehow deleted, you'll have to recreate it by clicking on the "+" sign and choosing the onboard port. This has to be done even if the port isn't connected to anything.
  4. The other port can be recreated afterwards

I know it's a pain.

Hello all together,

I've solved my problem which is - so I think - identical with your problem.

That's the way I've taken:

I've downloaded the program "Mac Cleanse" (I've got a free licence because of an advertisment. Here is the link: http://www.koingosw.com/promos/appyfridays.mc/)

after I have installed the programm I scanned my mac. The program did find a lot of files. I deleted them all.

Result: I've downloaded the first app from the App Store yesterday. :-)) Everything is ok.

I don't know whether this way is good for everyone but for me it was.

Best wishes and good luck!

Hey,

I got the same problem, itunes support answered with this options:

Dear Carlos,

Greetings from iTunes Support. It's me again Evo.

Carlos, thank you for submitting the requested information regarding the issue on your account.

I can see that you're having trouble signing in to the iTunes Store with your Apple ID.

Please try the steps below.

1) Make sure you're using the latest version of iTunes. You can download the latest version free of charge from the Apple website:

http://www.apple.com/itunes/download

2) Open iTunes.

3) From the Store pull-down menu at the top, choose Sign In.

4) Enter your iTunes Store account name and password, and then click Sign In.

If you no longer have the password for your account, you can reset it on the iForgot website:

http://iforgot.apple.com

With iForgot, you can choose to reset your password in one of these ways:

- You can have a password-reset email sent to an email address on your account.

- You can answer the security questions that you previously set up.

Worked for me for a while but I'm presenting the same issue again.

Good luck.
