I just had this experience with guests waiting to watch a movie that I was going to watch by myself ...not allowed to change my mind and watch it on another device?? I paid the rental fee and accept the time limitation but I want the freedom to watch it on whatever device I frigging choose!!

I had to look up this article to find out I cannot transfer a temporary movie rental from iPad to iTunes, PC or Apple TV. That's a stupid policy that makes no sense and reminds me why I don't want to deal with apple products. And no it is not necessary to have this policy to protect against piracy and no I don't think it was Universal or other corporation that forced these terms on Apple.

Just rented 3 movies for a trip tomorrow on my mac assuming I could watch on my iPad. I accidentally started playing one on the mac so I can't move that one now. The other two I had not hit "play" yet so I was able to find those in my iTunes Library as m4v files and was able to move those. The movie I did start is listed under a tmp file and is called "download m4v". I tried moving it to a new location on the mac and QuickTime couldn't open it and told me to open it with iTunes. Seems once you start watching it on one device, you must finish it there. The key is to move them beforehand an once you start watching, you can not move it again. Frustrating . . .

In the interest of clarity on these issues...

There are times when Apple is simply enforcing the licensing rules of the content owners. i.e. "the Movie Studios"

There may be times when you can stream your movie from an iOS device to an HDTV via Airplay and times when you can't.

*Some* content licenses may be written to prevent you from enjoying a movie on your 75" HDTV when you have only licensed (rented) it for a 10" screen experience (your iPad)

Vent your frustration in the right direction here.

You are incorrect.

Apple, NOT the movie studios, has, for a looong time, limited rental of movies, to the specific device that the rental is tied to.

Lately with purchused, NOT rental, iTunes movie content, both Apple AND the movie studios have put new DRM code into effect where you can't stream purchased iTunes movie content any longer from remote storage devices to any Apple iDevices, like from external, portable Wifi hard drives and flash drives, any longer without purposely defeating the recent DRM code.

I have Seagate Wifi drive I used to be able stream all of my iTunes movie content from the drive to my iDevices, without having to resort to any content modifications

Since iOS 8 Apple has shut down/coded out this ability to do this.

I have an external hard drive with around 30 iTunes movies all of which I can no longer stream from that drive to my iPad until I do what I feel needs to be done to freely store and watch my legally purchased, dowloaded video content the way that I WANT TO STREAM AND WATCH this content.

This is why, awhile ago, I have decided to stop purchasing movies from iTunes and have gone back to buying actual mutil format discs of my favorite movies to do with as I see fit. It is not like I am havng public viewings of movies in abondoned or empty building parking lots, selling content illegally or any other illegal movie viewing or selling activities. I am not involved with any torrenting activities, either.

These movies are for family and personal viewing enjoyment and for enjoyment on the go.

I will just keep increasing my movie disc collection. I wanted to cut back on movie discs, but the strict limitations of digital downloads is just too restrictive, now.

I rented a movie on my ipad, how can I watch on my pc?
