Sorry Polar2100 it did not work for me.  The lists are there, but there is no content.  Guess I have to wait on Apple to restore the functionality.

I have one other workaround, if you do not want to delete the Podcasts app:

    1. Select all of the podcasts in a playlist

    2. Choose "Get Info" and click "Yes" for "... edit information for multiple items"

    3. Click the "Options" tab and change the Media Kind to "Audiobooks"

    4. Be sure, when you click your device in the left column, under the "Books" tab, you have checked your playlists in "Include audiobooks in the following playlists" to sync

    5. After you sync, you can now play your podcasts in playlists, including restoring double-speed playback.

    6. I am not sure if they will automatically delete themselves when your podcasts update.

    Enjoy!

Well folks until Apple gets this Podcast app figured out i'd recommend using Stitcher. I've been using it since the grand upgrade and it seems the best alt.

this sorta works, but my playlist loses it's order and reverts to alphabetical.

Regarding converting to audiobooks, if you click the "number" column (the left-most one) you can sort arbitrarily, but you need to right-click the name of the playlist and choose "copy to play order" for it to stick. Good luck!

just realized in the music player that I'm looking @ audiobooks, which are listed alphabetically.  But the playlist "today" is not show in the player's playlist, although it is shown in iTunes on the Mac when the phone is hooked up by wire, and all the "audiobooks" are there.  I've got the playlist checked in "books" to sync.

Dunno.  Guess I'll go off and curse the darkness, but thanks, Dan.

Does anyone know if this issue is on Apple's radar?

I'm in need of a podcast playlist as well. Just a simple "all not yet listened" + "ordered by release date/time, oldest first" will do fine.

For me, podcasts and RSS feeds seem to be the most used content in my iOS devices. The Flipboard app handles RSS very well but podcasts have been left out in the cold in iOS6. I'm not interested in any workarounds what so ever, these things have to work in iOS without a hitch or a hassle.

C'mon Apple, you can do so much better!

I went back to the Podcast App as it is the only way to download new podcast episodes.  However, all during my morning bike ride I had to stop and move it to the next episode even though it was the same podcast.  What a nightmare.  I finally went to my WBUR radio app and listened to whatever was on live.

    Does Stitcher support iTunes playlists?

  • rhkennerly Level 1 (0 points)

Stitcher doesn't seem to support playlists. Not that I've found so far.

No offense, but then how is that a solution to the problem of podcast playlists?

  • robynfrommenai Level 1 (0 points)

I hope Apple reads discussions like this and listens to everyone who wants their fully functional podcast playlists back.  Is there a feedback link anywhere that users can use to let Apple know how they feel?

  • gujamin Level 4 (1,025 points)

If you haven't already, everyone should voice their discontent at http://feedback.apple.com and open support tickets with apple care tier 2 support.

    Go to http://www.apple.com/feedback/

There isn't a specific feedback choice for the Music or Podcasts app. Maybe submit general iPhone, iPod or iPad feedback.

    +1!

Losing this feature is a terrible backward step in user experience.

I use the exact same smart playlist setup, and it allows hands-free listening and automatic deletion and synching of new content. I can't imagine how I'll get along without it.
