How do I remove DVD Player from my desktop?

Somehow I have the application "DVD Player" in Launchpad, in my Application folder, and on my Desktop. I want to remove the icon from the desktop. If I drag the icon from the desktop to the Trash, the application will not open in Launchpad or from the application folder.

What steps do I need to follow to remove this misplaced icon from my desktop?

As has been pointed out that icon on your desktop is not just a Link/Alias to the DVD Player.App. It IS the actual Application. Someone Dragged it out of the Applications folder. Anytime you do that it moves that file from it original location to the location it is dragged to. If you want an Aliases of Apps on your desktop you must first create an Alias to it and then drag that Alias to the desired location.

The only time, that I know of, that Aliases are auto created is if you drag something to the Dock.

Thanks.

This whole Command+++ other key/s Drag Drop for this/that options is so Old school.

In Windows all you have to do is Right click Drag Drop and select "Move here", "Copy here" or "Make shortcut here" from a menu that comes up.

I guess the most advanced OS in the world hasn't gotten there yet.

Now all have to do is remember all these Hold this or that key down to do this or that. Maybe a cheat sheet tape to the wall above my desk. But what to do when I'm away from my desk?

Old school, but you said you didn't know about it. OPT-click+drag & drop, puts a copy onto the destination. click+drag & drop, moves it to the destination. Sorry, but what's windoze? You have to use the keys to activate a dropdown and select something? Appears to require a couple of extra steps with that poor excuse of an OS.😉

The desktop icon of DVD Player: Get info > Kind: Application 32-bit

The icon in Lauchpad has the DVD Player icon with a question mark. It will open the application if the DVD Player icon is on the desktop. If the desktop icon is moved to the Trash the application will not open from Launchpad.

I appreciate all of the replies, but I'm still uncertain as to how to have the icon in Launchpad and the Applicaions folder open the application when clicked on, and remove the icon from the desktop.

Yes. The real DVD Player.app has stood up!

As baltwo said drag it to your Applications folder. That is where it belongs.

AFA Launchpad, I don't use it myself... but if you click and hold on any icon all will begin wiggling and there should be an "x" next to the icon you can click to remove it?
