Upgrade from Lion Server to ML 10.8.1 Broke Mail server!

....10.8.1 OD seems to work, files and AFP available, but Mail server not working correctly. Now users don't see mail, postfix issues numerous errors about missing system_user_maps and delivers no mail? Must recover mails! Help! Where should I look, and what to read for Diagnosis ?

After upgrade in place from SL to Lion to ML. most services did not work correctly; except for Mail and DNS and OD. Reinstalled. Now most everything seems to work including Card Services, Calendars, Wiki, Web, DNS, OD. But Mail is off and missing??? No delivery of INcoming mail, No Sending Mail, no IMAP Mail login for users.

On Mail configuration in Server.App: Turned off All Filtering. Have rebooted Server several times, Restarted Mailserver from Server,app and Terninal. Same Results. Somewhere along the line from Server 10.5 to SL to Lion to 10.8 incoming Maill started going to user@PLG1.plg-law.com rather than simply user@plg-law.com.

Is it possible that virtual domains are fuzzing up the works? The error logs use the longer virtual domain (with the sevrer name prefix) rather than the domain name?

Here are some sample Log messages:

Well that's why's I requested you to log on as root user... which can verify everything

To enable root user

Go to system preferences

go to users and groups

click JOIN network server

click Open Directory Utility

click Unlock/lock button to make changes...

Go to edit menu and select Enable Root User

enter root user password to what you want and don't ever forget it

log out of your admin user and log in as root user...

Now you are root so don't mess anything up in the system and just use the root user to verify stuff...

you can even use root to move folders around, but just careful...

Darn. After all of that, upon restart, all of the old Mail probelms and errors are back again. Cannot reach mail server from clients. No Joy. Arggh!

Is it possible the Main.cf file in the etc/postfix also needs to be modified?

Is it alos possible my OD Master is not owrking properly? I posted a separate question here about odd renaming of my OD Master in the upgrade process: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4278481

I am backing everything up in cloned snapshot for tonight and will try again in the am. Maybe exporting all users (8 of them) via WorkGroup Manager, and demoting the OD to standalone, then repromoting OD to Master may resolve some of these problems. I can them reimport my users after the OD looks perfect.

Any more suggestions? Thanks

Well mystery continues. Some positive progress. Maybe server just needed some time??? Odd that 10 hours of waiting and patience made a difference. Today, Surprisingly, users CAN sign in and get mail, but certain mailserver logged errors continue ad infinitum:

Not sure if this is big problem or small. Any ideas?

I am going to try these corrections too. Brian

Within the file /Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix/main.cf you have a few lines of code that need to be altered, something you can do in terminal by entering:

sudo nano /Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix/main.cf

In that file a few pieces of text need to be substituted, added or removed:

change:

smtpd_client_restrictions = hash:/etc/postfix/smtpdreject cidr:/etc/postfix/smtpdreject.cidr permit_mynetworks

to:

smtpd_client_restrictions = hash:/Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix/smtpdreject cidr:/Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix/smtpdreject.cidr permit_mynetworks

change:

alias_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/aliases

to:

alias_maps = hash:/Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix/aliases

remove (because there's no such file):

virtual_alias_maps = $virtual_map

add:

virtual_alias_domains = hash:/Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix/virtual_domains
