Brad805's solution does not work as of iOS 6.0.1. My iPhone 4S still restarts after a complete battery run down and after cleaning the contact ports (I fail to see how this would even solve the issue to begin with.)

I have a solution to that problem of yours! This is completely free, you don't have to replace your phone to a new iPhone. The reason why your phone won't turn off is because you turned on so many notifications. I recommend you to switch off some of your apps from the notifications settings in your settings. It worked for me, because before I had the same problem, I dropped it a few times & after the problem, I purposely dropped it a few times(I know this sounds stupid, but nevermind). It finally worked. But if none if this doesn't work, then you should replace your phone. So just give it a try. I switched some of my apps from the notififcations settings, and it worked perfectly. Just try to see if it works. 🙂

Nope... none of the suggestions work. I'm having all the same problems. No audio on apps like music player, but still have sound from Siri. Cant shut down, just restarts and battery is draining rappidly.

This only just started happening with in the last day or so. I haven't dropped my phone or anything. ...Now what?

iPhone 4s keeps restarting itself after shutdown/battery draining quick/no sound after restart/ iOS 6.1

I bought my first iPhone 4S thirteen months ago (Jan 2012). After upgrading iOS to 6.01 and now 6.1 I have discovered some strange and nasty behaviours.

The first noticeable thing is the iPhone restarts itself after every shutdown and don't play any sound at all (no sound when using the keyboard, no sound from music app) and no sound control with external buttons. But the ring sound function is working normaly !

I have cleaned the connector with a toothbrush but I think dust into the connector is not the cause of problem in my case.

After 3 to 5 minutes, the sound function is back again without doing anything !

The only way the iPhone stay off after shutdown is when it's plugged on a power source with a computer or a charger.

And the last noticeable effect after iOS updating is the fast battery draining, 1 per cent every 2 or 3 minutes, even when the phone is supposed to be on sleep mode. Last night i left the iPhone sleeping with 100% charge in Airplane mode and six hours after i found the battery was at 80% !

It seems the iPhone don't sleep at all and some processes are always running in the background even if they shouldn't. I can confirm this checking the usage stats, finding that standby time is very closed to the usage time (few minutes less for usage).

I made many tests and four restore procedures, including restoring the iPhone as new in two opportunities. No solution at all !

Now, i am using my iPhone 4S in a very conservative way, as i have to turn OFF the 3G, GPS, WIFI, Exchange and iCloud funtions to be able to use the phone basic functions during a working day !

In conclusion, i think we (because many iPhone 4S users are concerned) are facing :

- a defective hardware

and/or

- a buggy iOS 6.01 or 6.1

In all cases, APPLE is responsible for fixing this situation.

I pledge firstly for a one year extension of warranty period and the launching of an exchange program.

I think we (iPhone 4S users) also need a technical assessment to know what are exactly the buggs inside iOS 6 that produce such battery draining.

I hope APPLE will communicate soon on these matters !

Best regards

Denis

I just had the same problem, took it to the Apple Store and they told me that it was hardware related as well (no water damage of any sort) but it was not covered and said it would be $200 for a replacement. I only have a few months left on my contract so I decided just to wait it out. Three days later iOS 6.1 was released, and now magically the phone turned off. Extremely happy I did not pay the "geniuses" to replace the phone.

I have a 4S, 1yr 2mos old, with IOS 6.0.1 (10A523). This problem just started for me a week or so ago, quite some time after my upgrade to 6.0.1 (so I don't think that's it); somehow I don't think that upgrading to 6.1.1 will help so I'll hold off, because any software upgrade has its risks.

I just did a very thorough cleaning using, in this order: soft (paint) brush, compressed air, soft toothbrush (gently, to be sure not to damage delicate contacts), compressed air, tuner cleaner (my miracle worker), more compressed air. Examination at each stage using a 60x microscope, until everything was pristine and shiny.

Nuttin.

Next, I tried turning off notifications, per lorddisick's suggestion. I turned off many more notifications than I had before the problem (no change). Then I turned off more, including some I thought suspect (so I wanted to turn them off individually). Nuttin.

I take VERY good care of my phone, using a protective gel case, plus a hip case when necessary. It never gets wet, and I keep it out of dirty environments. Any "shocks" (drops) were minimal (tabletop, not floor), and few between.

The battery is good. I've taken proper care, using recommended conditionning, charging procedures, etc. (there may have been some degradation, i.e. quicker discharge, since the last iOS upgrade, but nothing like what's being reported).

I've tried turing off while plugged in, and not.

Having exhausted everything I've seen here (aside from the wiping and upgrade, which I'll save as a last resort), I thought I'd post my situation for others before I move onto other forums. I wish you/us all luck, and hope to see a solution which works for me soon; I'll certainly come back here and post if I find one!
